SCCU 50 27/6

Postby Andrew G » Sun Jun 27, 2010 2:15 pm

Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day...

Down to Horsham this morning for the SCCU 50 with Rob and Paul H breaking his 50 duck. I made a concession to what was going to be a hot morning and ditched the pointy hat in favour of a cotton cap, back to front for the retro aero style. Very glad I did as I'd have cooked in the lid on a 50.

A lovely still morning too so not many excuses making themsleves evident.

I started off okay but was a bit off my ideal at 9 miles (my first marker point at Tolgate) so picked the pace up and was shovelling along quite nicely for the rest of the ride.

On to the second lap and holding the average nicely, picked it up a bit more on lap 2 and was certainly getting through my little bottle in the heat.

Coming out the last turn just as Keith C was entering and estimated maybe 20 seconds ahead of him. How long could I hold him off? Er not long, just got back through Hopoast and he shot through having taken 13 minutes out of me! I chased a shrinking Keith the remaining 2 miles to finish with a nice new PB having sliced just under a minute and a half off :) .

Addiscombe
Rob RE 2.05.09 good going after that tough 100 last week.
Andrew G 2.04.11 PB
Paul H 2.00.43 fantastic ride also netting him a trophy and 20 quid as best "2nd class" rider.

Winner was Rupert Burbidge with 1.49.30. Bec got the team prize with all 3 counting riders 1.52 or faster I think Keith got second with 1.50.55.

Forgot to add a big thank you to the Ingrams Mike and Chloe for marshalling today.

I saw Paul a couple of times on course and looked to be going well, nice to hear him comment on the drags and climbs like Hopoast too so glad it's not just me suffering on them :D .

Excellent debut from Paul, Good work from Andrew chipping away at that PB, and not too shabby from Rob either.

Naughty boy was wearing trade team shorts, should be plain or club colours only. Over-looked by the organiser but some can by picky so best keep 'em plain next time Paul.

I can understand the rule as you don't really want people racing under their club name in all kinds of poncy pro kit just because they like the look of it, would make life more tricky for timekeepers/spotters too, but the odd occasion with different shorts should be allowed. Blimey they let people wear those ridiculous looking calf guards / compression socks to race in and they really look silly. A skinsuit and a point hat is bad enough without those too.

Poncy pro kit is fine for club events though, just not opens.

I was given a warning afterwards about my shorts and my number being too high hence why I want to buy a skin suit if I can get my size. I might break 2 hours as well then!
