It must have been a fluke, since we all know that only Rooney and Cole J have the ability to open up defences  . Still, just as well Defoe's shin is more accurate than Heskey's.

Did I mention that my great grandfather was German? I'm looking forward to Sunday's game - of commentary bingo. Listen out for mentions of Teutonic efficiency, 1966, Dunkirk spirit, penalty shoot-out practice and the Reinheitsgebot. Oh, I seem to have invented a drinking game :D .

Got 3 WHU or ex WHU in the team and we win. Spotting a pattern?

So long as the smile was big then I must have done okay  .

All this world cup guff got me thinking. Thinking about the burden of expectation, about leadership, about a crazy guy running naked in Buenos Aires.

I couldn't help myself...

...and yes I still think Argentina gonna win

I'm watching the game in the barn at Priory Nutfield. After Germay's 4th goal I had to go outside as I don't want the kids seeing me cry.

Frank Lampard's no goal aside. That was very sad from some of the most highly paid players on the planet. They had a good 20 mins and that was it. I am no football fan but who is to blame, is it the manager or the players? Or both? I have watched a few games and on a team playing front both Japan and Mexico have put England to shame. But speaking as a Scot, as least you qualified!

I gotta be honest I switched over to the Cycling (National Road Race Champs)once the score when up to 3-1. That was so bad the way we conceded those goals - simply ruderless and clue less :( :( :( :( . I listen to 'Talksport' quite a bit and this German comedian was asked for a score prediction - pretty much every one to a man before him, pundits and callers a like suggested 2-0 or 2-1 to England. Imagine their shock when he confidently predicted it would be 5-1 to Germany. The presenters pretty much laughed him off the program and told him to get lost.

And there you have quite a large part of why England get beat so soundly. Arrogance and an unwillingness to listen and learn. I was born in this country - I like good football. Every German goal got a cheer from here - well executed footie against a shambolic over rated side. Yeah shame about the ref 'n all but that England team got what they've been deserving since they arrived, a walloping. I hope they can learn something from this as I'd far rather go into 2014 wanting to watch good footie and believing England can deliver it.

I detected a certain air of despondency round Hackbridge late afternoon, so I decided to check the headlines... sure enough

Well, I didn't waste the afternoon watching it either, instead I wasted it in the garden building a rabbit enclosure for our rabbit. I could roughly follow the score anyway by all the oohh! and aahhs! going on all around us. It was nice and quiet evening at least.
