Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day...
Down to Horsham this morning for the SCCU 50 with Rob and Paul H breaking his 50 duck. I made a concession to what was going to be a hot morning and ditched the pointy hat in favour of a cotton cap, back to front for the retro aero style. Very glad I did as I'd have cooked in the lid on a 50.
A lovely still morning too so not many excuses making themsleves evident.
I started off okay but was a bit off my ideal at 9 miles (my first marker point at Tolgate) so picked the pace up and was shovelling along quite nicely for the rest of the ride.
On to the second lap and holding the average nicely, picked it up a bit more on lap 2 and was certainly getting through my little bottle in the heat.
Coming out the last turn just as Keith C was entering and estimated maybe 20 seconds ahead of him. How long could I hold him off? Er not long, just got back through Hopoast and he shot through having taken 13 minutes out of me! I chased a shrinking Keith the remaining 2 miles to finish with a nice new PB having sliced just under a minute and a half off .
Addiscombe
Rob RE 2.05.09 good going after that tough 100 last week.
Andrew G 2.04.11 PB
Paul H 2.00.43 fantastic ride also netting him a trophy and 20 quid as best "2nd class" rider.
Winner was Rupert Burbidge with 1.49.30. Bec got the team prize with all 3 counting riders 1.52 or faster I think Keith got second with 1.50.55.
