After the storming start to my season cracking 20mph with ease (or by 4 seconds anyway) I cadged a ride in this interclub 10 between some of the local clubs. I dusted off my TT bike for the first time interested in seeing what difference it would make from my road bike. It certainly feels faster although being fat and unfit the position needs tweaking to something I can actually maintain for over half a 10 mile course
The Helpston 10 course is another sporting course, around a circuit, almost entirely single lane with some stretches of two lane road (that is lane rather than carriageway!) with a great big lump in the middle. Nice day with some wind but not too bad.
Got my pacing entirely wrong mainly because I wasn't happy with my bike position but improved on the previous weeks power outputs so quite happy with that. Wasn't really sure where the finish was and my PT was underreading speed/distance as I'd changed from a tub wheel to a clincher wheel without resetting the distance factor so came across it rather earlier than I expected. Good thing was I only tried to kill myself for the last half-mile rather than the last mile.
Finishing with a 26.56. Event won by Ali Slater with a 22.08. After doing some fiddling on excel I reckon the TT bike is worth about a 3% improved time (without skinsuit or aero-helmet) which is not actually as much as I would have thought.
