Bec CC 10 17/7

Sadly I was the only Addiscombe on the startsheet for this one :( , okay it's the Holmwood course which isn't anyones favourite but a pity Keith didn't have a few more out for his promotion.

Anyway a quick chat with Tamar, who was showing off the tan marks from recent cycling travels :D , and then off for a warm up.

Wow that was windy. I knew it was a bit of a blowy day but it was fairly strong and coming from all over the place. Very strange as normally on this course you either get a head wind out or home but today it was some head and tail wind out and home, very strange and kept you on your toes with your gears.

Out to the turn in reasonable nick where I found a grinning Tamar telling people where to go. On the return I caught a couple of people for a few minutes who were suffering along in the wind, checking the startsheet they had no previous so were first timers. A hard day to break your duck.

Thumping along quite well on the way back too and shouted my number at the ever cheerful Frank at the line before spinning back for tea and cake.

24:01 for me today which I'm fairly happy with considering the conditions, a smidge over 2 minutes off Keith and a touch more off Tim Stevens so not too bad.

Steve Dennis was in superb form last year and has got better again this year with some storming results and times including 4th in the National 50. He made everyone else seems slow today and laughed at the wind winning with a staggering 20:08 :!: I think I've only ever been at an event on this course with a faster time once and that was Hutch. You knew he'd done a good one when he had time to ride back park his bike up and walked in the HQ and it was only 22 minutes after his start time  .

Bec won the team prize.

Wow, that's a proper fast time from Steve on that course. Usually a long 20 or short 21 tops the list in an open event there.

I gather the Bec were rather embarassed about losing their race numbers and having to borrow ours
