Lights for Dunwich Dynamo

Postby Nick W » Wed Jul 21, 2010 6:32 am

I have a friend who is doing the Dunwich ride at the weekend (actually something I am keen to do too....).

He does not cycle much and does not have a need for a powerful set of lights which, in my view, would be advisable, particularly in view of the number of Ford Escorts, Vans etc on the roads in Essex after closing time and the poor state of the roads.

He has asked me for a solution to what he calls his "occasional cyclist and tightwad criteria". I mentioned that there are relatively cheap versions of lights in motion or whatever they are called and I do recall someone posting on this but even then I think the cheap Chinese alternative was probably still around £50 a set, which hardly answers the tightwad criterion. Can someone please remind me as to where the posts are.

Better still, if I ask extremely nicely, might someone be able to lend me their set/front light, obviously on the basis that I give a full indemnity against damage, loss etc?

Alternatively, any (helpful!) suggestions would be welcome.

Many thanks.

Hi Nick, the distance is about 120miles, I hope your occasional cyclist friend will be ok doing this distance (although no hills luckily). I didn't have very powerful lights when I did it , just stick with a few other cyclists and the combined output is enough.

He's fit enough and has e.g. done LEJOG in the past. We also did 24 peaks in 24 hours in the Lakes this weekend just gone, albeit not on bikes, I confess.

Thanks for the advice.

Nick - I assume the ride is Sat night. I could lend my Use Exposure, I can drop it on the way to the clubrun in the morning. Let me know

Have a good one Nick.
