MTB Rides this weekend ??

Postby higg » Thu Jul 22, 2010 12:13 am

Two ideas this weekend

Friday late afternoon, 5 or 6pm, cross country type loop from Wallington to Epsom and back thro Bansted, about 2 hrs easy pace.

Sunday 10am Peaslake, mostly down on purpose made trails with climbing on fireroads, about 3-4 hrs with coffee stop.

As usual, respond here so I know how many to expect and I can set the details.

Friday looks good for me. Got to collect my bike from Pearsons today so will confirm for sure once I'm in possession of a ridable riding machine

Yeah! The stealth shopping tank is back, now with added rain protection device. We're goin' riding.

Meet outside the bike shop?

Sounds like enough for a group then.

Let's say 5.30 from Wallington Cycles (used to be Action bikes) at the junction of Stafford road and Woodcote Road at the top of Wallington high street.

Great, I'm in for both. Don't know Wallington so any tips on some free parking close by would be luverly.

Nope, no free spaces down there

Mike. Come along Stafford Road, with the bike shop on the left as you approach the cross road lights (sainsbury on your right). Go straight through lights and turn left into park hill road after about 300 yards. Park up there.

See ya later

Parking on the street is free once you're not on the high street, but it does get filled with commuters cars close to the station. Snoop' suggestion is far enough away that it shouldn't be a problem.

I don't know if you're coming from Croydon or EG. If you are coming from EG turn off the A23 at Coulsdon (roundabout before the flyover section) this turns into the A237 over a steep hill Wallington. Approaching the Wallington traffic lights (you will see BHF charity shop on the corner) turn left and then left again after 300yds onto park hill road.

4 of us out this evening. Perfect weather, sunshine, no wind. Nothing dramatic in cycling terms, just an easy 2hr spin out to Epsom Downs and back around through Bansted. We tried a freewheel competition on the way back on a very gentle incline but the dry trails meant we just kept going for about half a mile.

Great ride, everyone bright and cheery, just right for a Friday. Discovered I's the only one who doesn't snowboard, so thats another expensive hobby I've got to get into!

Re: MTB Rides this Sunday from Peaslake ??

Postby higg » Sat Jul 24, 2010 6:49 pm

Just a reminder,

There is also a ride from Paslake Village Stores tomorrow morning (Sunday) leaving at 10.00am. Easy pace but some trails can be a bit tricky so probably not best absolute beginners.

If anyboy's intending to arrive later let pm me and I'll give you my number so we can arrange a place to meet tomorrow(something like 11.00 at Peaslake).
