Thanks Darren - I actually picked up my last required point by placing at Hillingdon a few weeks back. So it's thirds when my renewed license turns up.

Friday was a big turn-out for Dunsfold and I didn’t fancy my chances of placing. It seemed like a Redhill CR with 12 of their riders slowing the pack in support of an instant break away of one Redhill and one private rider who both stormed away from the off. A credit to their efforts, they managed to get some way out (for those who know the circuit they were, at their furthest, bombing down the wind assisted back straight as the main group exited the first left hand bend from the start line)! I have not seen a break like it in the fourths and at one point I imagine I wasn’t alone in thinking that the group were resigned to racing for third place and below. Were it not for Team Velo getting five of their riders organised by the fifth lap we would not have brought them back, although that took another 3 laps. Until this point whenever the group entered the long finish straight 2 or 3 Redhill riders took the front and the pace really dropped into that ‘private airport-like' headwind. In many ways it’s nice to see a team working as a team in support of a strong solo effort.

Lap 8 was fast and the pack was getting strung out and just as the final bell rung out another group of 5 riders broke. I was stuck in the middle of the main group (having taken evasive action not to lead the wind sapping final straight to the bell) and so as the main group reached the bell this new break away was halfway round the first left bend and stretching further away. I panicked a wee bit and managed to release myself from the packs grip and broke to chase them down. Thankfully Simon Wroxley of Houndslow and District Wheelers came with me and we shared the task of bridging the gap. We both pushed on passed a shelled Redhill rider to join the four leaders which took us all the way to the mini roundabout with two left bends to go. At this point I was in the wake of the lead group of six and in need of a rest with the pack hunting us down – one glance behind as we entered the last swooping left bend had them at 30m and gaining... The final straight came into view and I took third slot which soon had to become second as riders tired. Following some very sound advice from Darren P (who placed Second a few weeks earlier) I held my line for as long as possible and got into that leg burning sprinting mode just passed that Army truck. The line came in good time with me second and a wee bit of space before the growling pack arrived. Great workout and delighted with 2nd.

I will be consulting you DP before my next race :D
