Marmotte 2006

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Marmotte 2006

Anyone from the Addiscombe interested in taking on the fearsome Marmotte challenge?

I will probably be going back for more pain and agony.

Let me know if your thinking about it.

Cheers

Don't all rush at once eh lads ?

I was thinking of entering it Gavin, but after reading Huw's articles about all the UK sportives, I thought they would be hard enough. Plus they probably will not have an ambient temp of 90 degrees...
I have ridden those climbs but only 2 each in one day - all 4 at once would be a fearsome introduction to Sportives and might finish me off !
I have submitted a form for the Polka Dot challenge ( June 4 ) and hope to enter a few more when they become available..
Maybe next year when I am a bit more seasoned / sportive hardened I will be ready for La Marmotte !
Are you planning to enter any UK events Gavin ?

Hi Gavin there are a few of us doing the Etape on July 10th and I know Richard Viney is thinking of doing the Marmotte and the Etape back to back. What date is the Marmotte this year? I know you did it last year, sounded like a tough course. Maybe Toks can be persuaded to use it as a warm up for the Etape

I fancied doing the back to back but don't think I will get an entry to the Etape.

Would be good to do it with some people as I really struggled on my own at times.

Marmotte is the 8th (Sat), Etape is 10th (Mon)...........

Cheers

The Marmotte is more difficult than the Etape. 5000 metres of climbing! It is a seriously tempting offer. I read a great write up of the Marmotte in daily peloton by an elite rider...

What time did you get Gavin and what was the hardest part?

8 hours 50 minutes. Got a silver medal by the skin of my teeth.

Col du Galiber was the hardest it just went on forever I have never felt pain like that. Alpe D'Huez was hard but I knew were the finish was and how to pace myself up it even in my terrible state.

It is really hard work but an amazing achievement.

Hey Gavin, I don't know if you heard but our group entry, Team World (featuring a number of addiscombe members), was rejected by those very nice Velo people :x That means quite a few of us won't be doing the 2006 Etape. Now myself, Super and others need a big Cyclosportiv adventure in France this summer so I think we'll be joining you on the Marmotte. 8) 8)

Thats great news Tamar is doing it aswell so could be quite a good bunch.

I am staying at a campsite at the bottom of Alpe D'Huez and will be heading out there a week early as I am doing 4 events in the week.

Best of luck with the training. Mine is going terribly having a tough time at work and have been very tired lately. Hopefully things will get better next week.

Cheers
