Hey Colin - how do you get there without a car pls? I was going to do a local off road (starting near Wallington out to Banstead Epsom Downs etc) but I haven't been to Leith for a while and fancy that. Any travel tips much appreciated.

Cheers - Snoop

Hi Snoop,

Great you're interested. I normally get the train to Gomshall and it's a 15-20 minute ride from there to the village shop. I can go two routes from Clapham Junction: Redhill or Guildford. I'm guessing Redhill is better for you, so for Saturday it would be:

dep East Croydon 0900 arr Redhill 0916
dep Redhill 0934 arr Gomshall 0953

I can meet you (and any others interested) on that train if you like.

The other option is train direct to Dorking and a longer road ride to Peaslake, but I'd rather save my legs for the fun stuff!

Roughly speaking off-road route from Epsom
- bridleway from other side of race track to Boxhill
- along road towards Dorking BR
- right at Denbys up on to Ranmore
- along top of hill (perhaps on NDW) to White Down or further
- drop down hill and head over A25 (perhaps around Gomshall)
- magically make your way to Peaslake

Snoop,

directions by car, leave Dorking heading for Guildford on the A25.
At the end of Gomshall village turn left opposite the Murco petrol station.
Follow the road up the hill across the railways tracks.
Turn left at the t junction and continue for about 2-3 miles
You'll recognise the shop / busstop when uyou get there.

Park in the 2nd car park down the right road road behind the hutwood arms

or if its ful go past the village hall and park in the woods car park about 400m away.

I won't be around this weekend but good luck.

Aodan.

Great days off roading. Trails just about perfect I'd say.

Colin and I got the train down, and did three (I think) goes round yogurt pots before meeting up with Shaun and Marco. Marco showed us the inner yogurt pot loop and then we bombed down Telegraph. Love it! About 3/4 way down turned off and Marco led us down a really exciting single track with plenty of swoopy descents and twists through the woods. We then tackled an insanely steep bridlepath back up to the Holmwood viewpoint. Two goes of the outer ring of yogurt pots. What next? Barry Knows Best! Never done this before - it's a cracking long steppy twisty fast trail - just brilliant :D

We dropped into Peaslake and went to tackle Pitch Hill. I ran right out of gas and just fell away on the climb. Had to turn back to the village for some food, I was cattled  About three hours of hard work left me right out of gas.

After a refuel Colin and I pootled back to Gomshall station and away home we went.

I left my legs on the Surrey Hills today>Knackered and I loved it!

Thanks guys for a super fun day of excellent off roading. Good work to Colin for setting this up. Been too long since we were down that way.
:D 8) :D

Absolutely great day out. For the bit Doug missed - once we got up Pitch Hill there wasn't time for Christmas Pudding so it was another fast and swooping "Marco special" between Lawbrook Lane and Hound House Rd to give the suspension a final work-out before home. Thanks again to Marco for the routefinding - otherwise we would've spent a lot more time squinting at the map and far less charging down the trails.
