[quote="Keith"]There seems to have been a dearth of Club Run reports recently. What's up? Is nobody having fun any more? Nothing anyone wants to share?
Yeah, where have you lot been
I didn't have time yesterday to have another go at waking things up as I was heading out again that afternoon.
Anyway, Rogan, welcome to my world
After sorting out what gave me muscle weakness must be on now for two years, I'm still waiting to get back to the 19s - even the 18s are still a bit distant. Felt absolutely rubbish climbing out through Wallington and Woodcote so didn't feel I could attempt an 18. Took out the 'faster' 17s ably assisted by Brian R (or rather round the other way, I assisted Brian
) which began quite well with everyone working quite well together, keeping the pace nice and steady. A few people drifted off the back but everyone seemed to be keeping an eye out and we eased up as necessary and kept things together on junctions by waiting for everyone to get back in the group.
With such a nice group, I felt so much better and kept up quite well though I did have to shout at someone for forgetting the club run code of etiquette (see above) Sorry if it seems anal but having a smooth running group is a lot safer than having people jumping about all over the place and the rotations gives all a chance to ride on the front and to talk to other people in the group (TG excepted). OK rant over...
Most of the way down we numbered 13 but then one of our triathletes (sorry, I know so many by sight but names...
) caught us up and sat with us for a few miles resting. He'd already passed the other 17s and apparently we were well ahead of them
It felt a two-cup-of-tea job when I got to the cafe but I didn't really need all of it
Left with one of the first groups which as
junior has already observed was a bit twitchy for the return journey. I wasn't doing too badly and was hanging not too uncomfortably but unfortunately I got stuck behind two guys who couldn't corner - one was blaming his tyres and the wet roads - and once we'd lost the wheel of the group, there was no way in hell I was going to get back on. So I just kept on at the best pace I could do without killing myself eventually combining forces with another rider on a red Bianchi and Campag top for the finaly spurt over the Merstham drag and down into Coulsdon.
Didn't stop for lunch as I needed to get ready to go out again to Bromley - actually I didn't need to rush quite so much because I'd got the time wrong and turned up a bit early which was a shame because people missed the transformation from sweaty cyclist (I was riding on my tourer) to hopefully decent looking.
Oh yeah, in my cycle tourist persona, I got ignored by one of my fellow ACC'ers going through Croydon pushing past me to get to the head of the traffic (well next to the car in front of me)... I sometimes wonder if I should get a top that says "My other bike's a racing bike"
