Wigmore CC 35th annual Open Hill Climb 3rd October

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Wigmore CC 35th annual Open Hill Climb 3rd October

Hi Folks,

Wigmore CC 35th Annual Open Hill Climb

As I have said often enough. "Nothing Happens Unless One Makes it Happpen". When I got this Show on the Road way way back in 1976 I was told by those in the know that I would be wasting my time. The Kent CA Hill Climb had recently been taken off the Calendar because of lack of entries.
There have been highs and lows but in the main I reckon it has been well worth the effort. An entry of 74 has been the best and last year saw 66 riders on the card. Only bettered on 3 previous occasions. Nationally there are around three dozen such events on the Calendar each October and in terms of entries in recent years this event has been about the 6th best supported. My target is always 60. Win some lose some.
To celebrate the 25th and 30th year an added attraction had been a Trad Jazz Band playing for 2 hours in our HQ field on the summit of the North Downs. And so for the 35th year it will be the same again. Southville Stompers Dixieland Jazz Band will be there to play from around 9-30am.
Since moving to Lincolnshire 10 years ago I have travelled down to Kent to continue to run "My Baby". This year will be my last, as I will be finally handing it over. For sure I will miss it. My wish now is to bow out with a bumper entry.

Last year Sylvain Garde made off with £25 for 4th place. Is he still racing?

Hi Doug,
Unfortunately this clashes with a club trip to the Isle of Wight that weekend.
Hope you don't lose entries because of this.
best regards,
John.

If all of the Addiscombe membership is off to the IoW it may need more than one ferry  :?: Hopefully one or two may be left behind to consider putting in an entry. Hope you are in good health John.

Hi Doug,
Yes indeed. Still fortunate to be in good health. As you know I am now living on the Isle of Wight so not very active with the Addiscombe.
I am now second claim with the Vectis Roads CC, who, as you will remember, used to organise the good old Easter weekends. I was a member with them when I was 15/16 years old.!!!
Although I sold all my TT kit a couple of years ago I am currently getting the itch again so I am putting together a new TT bike.
You can't keep an old dog down.
Hope all is well with you Doug. Take care.
John.

You old dog John  .

I entered the Vectis Festival this year but unfortunately it was cancelled due to the Military Rd repairs and a lack of suitable places on the island to get a 20 mile loop without it, all small villages and towns and twisty roads. Great for riding but not good for racing. I won't be able to do it next year but hopefully they get it up and running so I can do it in 2012. I have plans afoot for next year which will involve being on the island for a day at the end of March should you be about, I'll fill you in next month.

I was hoping to do your HC this year Doug but will be in the IOW. Unfortunately not a large number of racers in the club despite the size of membership. Mainly a club run club. Not many tackle HCs, I'm rubbish at them but just like the masochism and ego stroking of the cheers :D . A shame it's your last I'd like to have done a famous Dougle promotion.

Well you cannot blame me for trying. It will be a sad time for me as it has been a part of me for so many years. Almost half my life time. With an ageing motor I have finally bowed to my wifes wishes. For 10 years now since moving to Lincolnshire it has been twice a year, 3 days away and 500 mile round trips each time. I have got a guy to take over who I hope will be as enthusiastic about the Hill Climb as I have been. I have also handed over the Bill Philbrook Memorial '25' that has been in my care for 28 years. The last two of which saw full fields.
I have however let my replacement know that whether I am upstairs looking down or down below looking up, I will be interested to see that he is still doing a grand job in 30 years time. So he knows that I will be keeping an eye on him.
