Pot holes over the back. Keith Butler looked at the possibility of using it for evening races, but no luck with getting the surface to a decent level to race on, ok for mtbing though :)

So no good for laps for a chaingang then? Shame.

It would be nice to get an ACC chaingang going. But you would have to take peoples abilities into consideration. A chaingang is supposed to be hard. So if people are getting dropped they won't come back the next week. Maybe have a couple of groups .

I don't see why if we got enough people we could run something similar to the crs but with no waiting if you get dropped - and anyone riding off the front of a group should be kicked up to the next group next time out... and if you get dropped off the back of the last group then you do what I did - turn round sooner and hope you get picked up on the way back for another bash... actually several bashes as the faster groups would come by first :D

Philf, I join you with an aspiring plodders group :D When Serge tried B standard chaingang, I really needed a C standard one especially when the faster boys started joining in

I like the idea of spreading the riding out over the week, especially with my fitness level where it is... :(

Yep. The last time the "B" standard went a bit A and, at the time, I wasn't quite able to hang on.

If we could do quieter roads with quick/variable rotations then that would work. Probably not too quiet - I've tried riding the lanes on my own in the dark and it's nice but you have no idea how fast you're going or what's going to happen next - even using my MTB front light. Not really conducive to high speeds.

Straight down the A23 through Redhill and Gatwick to a roundabout near Crawley that I never made it to and back again.

So, who feels like meeting next Tuesday (21st) at 7:30pm at CSS? Depending on who turns up and how they feel, we can either go for a CR type ride of a bit of chaingang. I was going to go out tonight and scope some roads, but it's raining.

[quote="Toks"]I'm not trying to sprinkle rain on anyone's parade. What a funny time to begin a chain gang - just when most people are easing off. We had all the spring and summer and there was not even a sniff of an evening ride

I think this is being aimed more at the social rider who wants to get a bit fitter and quicker rather than those who are coming to the end of the racing season. Your just scared you'll get left behind in the dark Toks :D

You have my support Amy.

I'm hoping my meeting next Tues night gets cancelled. If it does, i'll be up for this Phil.

I think you've got it in one there, Ant - thanks for your support for me and those like Phil who want to help organise these things. Perhaps those who want to ease up for the end of the racing season might like to join in and show support for us aspirationals by helping tow us round 8)

It may be that this will form the basis of a full-on chaingang later in the year - but with capacity for all levels of fitness.

Phil, I'll be out.

I'll be up for a few of these too to help keep ticking over during the winter. Will be nice to have something that's eyeballs out all the way as well

I'm up for ride on 21st.

As we're going out of town, do we need any stronger front lights. What is recommended as a minimum? I'm using the below at the moment but this is mostly for city rides.
