Evening Group Turbo Sessions - Cancelled

Postby Dan_K » Tue Oct 05, 2010 8:35 am

With evenings and weather drawing in, I think that there will be less and less willing people to get out and ride but loads keen to keep up fitness.

The Tuesday night chain gang looks to continue for as long as possible but I thought it would be good to try to sort an alternative night as backup or in addition to the chain gang. Perhaps a Thursday night group turbo session.

We all know that turbo training sucks but as a group I think it would be quite fun and could provide some specific training condensed into an hour's session.

I've got all of the Sufferfest videos and a couple of other training dvds that we could use. People could bring their own turbos so all we need is a venue and some form of screen/projector.

It would mean that regardless of ability, anyone can train together in a warm, dry environment and develop/maintain a good level of fitness over winter.

What do we think? Anyone interested? Ideas?

For a turbo session I don't think you would want it too warm, more like cold , ideally you would need some big floor fans.

Hi Dan
I'd defiantly be interested in some winter turbo sessions. But tuesdays and thursdays are difficult as these are SLH running club nights. I'm wondering if it was a different night you might get some of the SLH tri club interested - just a thought
Do you have a venue in mind?

Lucy.

Kieran, I get the point! I meant it will be better than riding in snow!

Lucy - it was really just a thought to guage interest so the actual night is pretty flexible, although I would suggest that it doesn't clash with the CG run.

As for a venue, I have no idea. Anyone know anything about using the clubroom, cost etc?

I would suggest that to keep costs down, we find a free/very cheap venue and make it so that riders are responsible for bringing their own turbos, fans etc.

I have a laptop that I can bring. Anyone have access to a projector and screen?

I don't see why this has to be an exclusive ACC thing so other clubs, friends etc would be more than welcome.

The club owns a projector and screen and I have it in my garage at the moment.

Wednesday nights are as far as I know available at the clubroom - although we reduced to one a month, I am sure it could be resurrected.

I love it when a plan comes together.......

Do we get the room for free?
I'm happy to facilitate.

I'm sure we could come to some arrangement.

If you want to propose a definite date or series of dates, I'll look into it.

I guess the best plan of action is to see how much interest we get on here and if we get 5+ people willing to give it a go, i'll get a regular thing arranged.

If we say propose that it will be on a Wednesday at 7.30pm at the clubroom:

The Christ Church Methodist Hall, 114 Lower Addiscombe Road, Croydon CR0 6AD

If I get enough takers, i'll make definite arrangements.

This is just a proposal though so nobody turn up until I confirm everything......

I'll be up for these group turbo sessions during the winter as its gonna be another cold one with snow so Wednesday is ideal, we could get Joyce down to help with our recovery drinks after.

There have been turbo evenings in the past run at the clubroom. I`d be interested as long as they were not too late. 7.30 would be great but 9.0 oclock and unfortunately I can`t sleep.

Hopefully this will come together.

I'm working from memory which could be dangerous so best if you check the details with Joyce.

I think we have the club room on Wednesday's, could be all but was dropped to once a month when nothing much was happening as Joyce didn't want to go and open up for one or two people from the CTC when no-one from the Addiscombe was using it to any real degree. It was opened up every week when it was being used for pilates for example.

I don't think we have access to the room until 8.30pm as the brownies are in there before us. This would mean that in reality you couldn't start anything before 8.45pm as you can't go in to set things up when they are using it obviously, so I think 8.45pm would be earliest start based on everyone being waiting like a coiled spring at the door to get in and set their bike/turbo up and someone sorting out the screen.

Re finishing I don't know that there is a limit except what Joyce wants as she is the key holder for locking up.

I would speak to Joyce to check our usage of the hall, and also to arrange what would be best regarding locking up etc.

That was just for info, I'm not going near a turbo :D .

Thanks for the info Andrew.

I don't mind locking up at the end to save Joyce the hassle. Anyone got Joyce's number?
