Security question

I appreciate that people might not want to share this sort of info but...

My garage got broken into last night and two bikes were stolen. I thought that I was pretty secure as I had a sliding bolt with meaty padlock and a garage defender with an even meatier padlock on it e.g.

At the moment it seems like I might get at least one of the bikes back but I need to speak to crime management team at Croydon before I know that for sure...

Anyways, if anyone has any recommendations about what security products might intensify Fort Rob C's perimeter I'd appreciate hearing about them. IEDs and a maxim gun/movement sensor combo although appealing are probably above and beyond the realms of what's possible (but not what's desirable) so if you have confidence in a product or setup I'd appreciate hearing about it.

Bad luck. Sounds like it was a definite targeted attack with proper cutting equipment as that defender thing would put most people off. To be honest if someone wants something then there's only so much you can do, you have to stop the opportunist and the bolt cutter brigade, make your's a less easy target than someone elses. Sounds like you did pretty much what you could be expected to unless you want to spend half an hour unlocking your garage every time you use it.

Bummer. Did you have the bikes locked inside the garage to something solid? Always worth it, with a good solid chain and lock.

Can I ask if it looks like they cut or forced the padlocks or some other method?

Forgot to mention fitting a ground anchor and locking the bikes to that as an extra delaying / sod this factor.

Rob, I looked into getting one of those garage defenders before, but the consensus on it by motorbikers etc was that all it did was paint a big 'X' on your garage door saying 'here be treasure'. Best to put any security features inside the garage out of sight and reach. You can put a ground lock on the inside of the door or put a lock near the hinges or on the slide bars to hinder the door opening.
