[quote="Jon Hemming"]Doug,
Just been reading through your "manifesto" thingy on the AGM thread. For the club run captain role I feel that we need someone who will be a regular on the club run in its (hopefully) various guises, and from that perspective my vote would go to Amy as she is currently more active and visible on our club runs.
However, all the other stuff you mention is great and I would be more than happy to have you back on the committee bringing with you all your ideas for moving the club forwards. I don't think there has to be a specific position; you can just be a committee member. Although with all the lanterne rouge and race reports to the newspapers you were doing, maybe "communications officer" or something similar may be a suitable title.
Anyway, if you want a nominator I'll be more than happy to oblige.
Jon
Thanks Jon, I really appreciate you writing this, it's given me lots of food for thought. Sorry for not responding sooner. I'm sure many people will feel that same way that you do about this. It's a great point you make and it may indeed be better for the club if I was to simply rejoin the committee. I am open to your suggestion.
And I do feel that the position of club run captain, should be about more than the club run, there are other things that I believe the club run captain needs to take a lead on. I think there is room for much wider encouragement into other areas of the club and a much better feel for communication than we have had previously. And I think we should be more open about things, for example I would encourage committee meeting minutes to be made available to all who want them. We're a club, not a secret society, and I don't think a lack of openness serves us well.
My business is about encouraging and helping people in organisations who want to find better, simpler, more enjoyable ways to work. I enjoy it and my clients tell me I'm quite good at it, and I think a lot of that experience could transfer easily over to ACC. As you and others know I've previously had a hand in successfully helping to organise social and racing and communication stuff for the club. And I freely admit that despite committee support at the time I should not have pushed for rule changes around the marshalling side. The rule changes were implemented and I was left waving a policy that our members didn't want and the committee weren't prepared to stand behind. I was responsible for that and I was wrong there for sure, but it's only through making mistakes that we learn eh?
I look forward to a constructive and hopefully fun discussion about this at the AGM and if it is obvious that I have no support then I will happily step away.
Thanks again - Doug
