6th Nov. - Grand Plans

Postby Andrew G » Tue Oct 12, 2010 5:16 pm

Okay folks I have a plan, weather permitting, so who wants to join me?

The plan is...

Saturday 6th November
Part 1
- 8.45am sharp depart for Club Run from CSS but heading out via Chipstead Valley Rd to catch a bit of the Ballbuster around Box Hill.
- Ride a lap of the course in reverse to offer support and have a shufty at the suffering.
- Instead of turning back towards Box Hill from Headley go down Pebble Hill and through the beautiful Brockham as a nicer route out to the cafe. The Brockham Bonfire preparations will be in full swing so we can check them out as we ride past and you can gawp at the size of the bonfire they're building.
- Normal run back from cafe.

Part 2
- Ride out to The Brockham Bonfire :D . (http://www.brockhambonfire.com/) A massive bonfire - biggest Guy Fawkes one in the UK - to enjoy, along with a spit roasted pig and other goodies and a beer or two to be consumed. All happening in a beautiful village green.
Ride out details to be confirmed once I've nailed down a timetable for the bonfire but I think it kicks off around 6-7pm so would probably be riding out from about a 6pm CSS meet. Good lights will be required for the night riding and some decent standing about with a pig bun and a pint clothing is recommended.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Hi Guys

My knees status is improving :) , so looks like I'm still on for the Ballbuster.
Be great to see some of you out on the course, I could defiantly do with some vocal support while I "suffer"

I won't be able to make Mr 's part 2 ride, as I intend to be very drunk by then and stuffed full of curry. :D

My plans were for an 18s group for the morning ride to get in some shouting at the nutters and a decent ride to meet others at the cafe (hence the earlier start time, may even slide to 8.30 when I've thought about it more) so that we can ride back with the rest of the CR.

I was undecided whether to go MTB or road for the evening depending on who was interested and what the weather was like, if it had been wet the day or two before would go on the road to avoid standing around wet and dirty at the bonfire.

Holy crap - why is everyone (apart from me) in this club so damn fast/in such a hurry

I can't manage 18s so I will probably ride out from my neck of the woods and catch up with y'all out on the course

Sorry Snoop, basically just doing it as an 18s CR with a slower loop on the side to cheer on.
Or we could have an additional slow group out to see and support the ballbuster? Leave at 9.05 and do the Walton route and we'd still be there to see some action.

:D :D Great idea Marco, I can't do 18mls :( :( on my stealth tank, but I may be able to do 13 1/2mls, can anyone help?? :?:

Hello again.

Okay plans for Saturday 6th November firmed up as follows:

8.45am - Leave CSS for CR ride via Box Hill to cheer on Ballbusters and Brockham to see bonfire preparations. This is a prompt depature so please get to CSS in time. This will be an 18s group ride.

Snoop's doing a slower ride to Box Hill to cheer on the Ballbusters.

7pm - Meet at CSS for ride to the Brockham Bonfire, we'll leave about ten past. Please note that although entry is free they ask for a donation so please bring some cash to throw in a bucket and sort yourself for bread and water (we may go to a local pub so if you have a lock you can bring for security it may be worthwhile and we can lock the bikes together and the fence in case they aren't in sight all the time).
This is an easy paced ride for a social occaision and is open to anyone from the 15s upwards. We ride easy paced so everyone can keep up. The emphasis is on social not speed, it's just a nice evening out.

A 7pm departure will get us there for the bonfire and the fireworks and then we can get something to eat and have a drink before heading home.

It may be a main road ride out for more lit roads but will play it by ear, you will need some good lights though as it will be dark and unlit roads near Brockham, little flashing LEDs get swallowed up almost instantly on roads once you're out of built up areas so you'll need something with a better light throw up front.

Below is the timetable of events for the day at Brockham village, if you want to enter in to the pig auction remember to take a pannier to take the fella home.
14.00 Children’s fancy dress – Brockham Village Hall
16.30 Car parks open
17.30 Brockham Lane Closes to all traffic and remains closed until 22.30
18.15 Procession leaves the Village Green and heads North and then South
19.45 Lighting of the Bonfire
20.15 Fireworks Display
20.45 Pig Auction
21.15 Raffle Draw
22.30 approx. Brockham Lane and the Village Green re-opens to traffic

Nice one Andrew - thanks. Just to avoid doubt if anyone fancies the slower ride I think we'd better leave at 8.45 too so that we can a) take it easy and b) get to the race in time to see some of it.

Daft question - is the course open to "traffic" ie can we ride round it or do we need to park up somewhere and walk??

Cheers - Snoop
