To keep them motivated with something new, it's important not to make it too hard too soon.

Not a record breaking pace, but he made it all the way up the zig-zag road without stopping or complaining.

I rode up there today and it was rather cold.

It wasn't too bad this afternoon - although we cooled down in the massive queue to be overcharged for tea & cake at the top.

When I want to really toughen him up, I take him on the A217 in the rain and tell him he's not allowed to drop below 18mph.

Pah, kids these days have everything served up to them on a plate - at his age I was riding tandem with Dad all over Surrey, including such delights as White Down and Leith Hill, doing 40-60 miles in a day

Dad's still got that tandem - it may have been the racing tandem of its day but it was and is still a flippin' tank

Nice one Phil - good training for Nov 6th - though personally I'd roll on to Walton for a caff stop  though I do like a mini milk from the NT place on a sunny day :D

That would probably be classed as child abuse these days

He did enjoy it. After hearing of young Mr Burton's exploits though he wants to have a crack at White Lane. I'll see if I can work out a safe route from here ...
