Great film, do you carry a metal ruler in your back pocket for those all important mm saddle height adjustments at road blocks?

Great film! I Loved the sedate commentary and production. It captures the era which, despite being mid-seventies, could have been filmed on a different planet. Hilarious to see the French union strike in the middle of the race and what’s with Merckxkccx adjusting his bike at every opportunity?!

See those famous showers at the end? The ones in Stanmer Park, Brighton were just like that. Except there was steaming hot water whereas it looks to be cold in the film, with one guy seemingly drinking from the tap ..

That was superb.

Forgetting the pimp like suit Merckx is wearing in the opening scenes and the number of moustaches (they couldn't do movember back then!!), the action is gripping.

Classic film (I have it on DVD). Love the terse commentary.

“The riders are allowed through in single file, the chain gang run the gauntlet of epithets about the capitalists who organize the race. A political lecture for the road.”

"This is where hell begins, the first stretch of pave is only two miles long but terribly difficult. The surface is completely deformed."
