Anyone have any hot tips on the best policies? Europa just quote £400 for 5K worth of kit so they can bu**ger off!
I need garage contents insured up to about 10k and up to 4k covered whilst out of the home.

Surely adding it onto your home insurance is not going to add too much. My bikes etc are all covered on my house insurance and this covers me even if I fall off or get it nicked when I am out and about. It does not cover me when I am racing though which is a bummer as that is the time I spend most of my time doing damage to my bike.

I used to have mine with Halifax but have moved to Nationwide. Halifax were really good it was just worth my while changing when I moved house.

I have a Barclays policy and just did a review which highlighted the problem. They only insure a single item for up to £1500 outside the home and won't cover bikes during racing.
The total kit is my bigger concern, adding up the total amount should the garage get broken into is a scary thought, hence most of the garage is now in the house! Barclays again only cover up to a max to £3k in out buildings!

Try Marks and Spencers.
They cover up to £4000 per item unlisted on my household goods insurance. This includes away from home. I don't race, so I can't say what their attitude to that is.
They were a little bit more than other household goods insurers, but way less than a seperate bike(s) policy.
Oh, and if you tell them that Grahame Baker from Bromley suggested that you try them, then I get a £10 M&S voucher to keep me in clean socks for another few days
