Cycling Research at the University of Kent

Postby Mark Leedham » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:19 pm

I received this email :

Researchers at the University of Kent at Medway and Canterbury Christchurch University are recruiting trained cyclists and untrained physically active individuals aged 18-30 and 50-75 to take part in our study on cycling efficiency. The study aims to investigate differences in cycling performance between the different age groups. The testing sessions involve a VO2max test, a Wingate test (both which are maximal tests), cycling efficiency tests, a performance time trial, and a muscle biopsy to look at muscle fibre type and efficiency. From the testing sessions we’ll give you as much feedback on your cycling performance as possible. We’d love to hear from anyone who’s interested in getting involved.

If you’d like further details on the study, please email Hannah Gregson on hg70@kent.ac.uk. We’re able to do testing in our sports science labs either in Canterbury or Gillingham, depending on where is easier to for you to get to.

Hello,

I hope you don’t mind, but I found your email on the London cylo cross website (cross crazy), and was hoping you might be able to help. I’m a PhD student at the University of Kent at Medway, and am doing a research study on cycling efficiency. We are currently recruiting participants for our study, and was hoping that you might be able to distribute the following information to your cyclists?

Many thanks.

Kind regards,

Hannah Gregson

This seems like a great opportunity to get some free testing.
If I were within the age groups required I'd jump at it. Unfortunately I'm too young :(

I'm in between the age ranges.

But it is on the campus where I work. So, once the clocks go forward again, if anybody is out here for testing and wants to ride back to Londonland afterwards, I can show you a nice, quiet route.

I wonder what proportion of ACC members is between 30 and 50. Somewhere between 'most' and 'ooh, pretty much everyone' would be my guess.

Helped out at Southbank Uni a few times in the past, similar tests, though I draw the line at muscle biopsy, rather attached it , after all its taken a lot of hard work to gain it!!
