Er subject to weather, at this early stage metcheck is saying -7C, 20-25mph wind, and snow.

If the weather is looking like being too frosty, potentially icy, or snowy then I won't be out on the road bike in lanes and will switch to an approx 3hr MTB ride, steady but reasonable pace, not a social chatting and chilling ride (would be cold enough as it was). If this becomes the option then it would be a 9.30am departure from East Croydon station and I'll add to this thread to let people know.

I won't be out at all. 'Cos I've been suckered into running a recruitment open day at the university that pays me to read books and then talk about them.

Still a road ride for me but I may be on the tourer and taking it easy in case of icy patches* - so wrap up well. I might get to wear my superduper warm and waterproof coat that I bought ages and it's not been cold enough to wear

Sounds great fun. If I wasn't going to Olympis to see Screamadelica the night before....

Think it's safe to get your coat out Amy.

Out here on the edge of the country it's very white with frost and any puddles are ice. If you go on the road I'd stick to more main roads and take it easier, Gatwick area is always one of the coldest in the south east.

Thanks to Alan for keeping me company on the MTB, we did a shortened 2hr loop as he has a cough, which I was happy to do. Very cold on the face in the countryside.

Lanes we crossed were fine as it's been dry lately but there's always the danger of frozen run off on them so hope there weren't any patches on the CR.

Did the normal club run with the 18's led by Ilya - the group decided to go through the lanes as they looked dry enough but we did keep it slow in some of the areas known for ice and we remained wary and watchful for any run-off, burst mains etc.
All in all a good run if somewhat cold but with no incidents :D

There were approaching 40 riders as CSS today. There was a Training Group (yes really, or may be a Tapering Group!), an 19/18mph group, an 18/17mph group, Pete's alternative ride to Eynsford. I went with a 9-strong 15mph group (I was riding my fully kitted touring bike) including John Cz, Claire, Wayne, Rena, and ... (sorry I'can't remember everyone's names). Took the usual club run route to Charlwood, via Patridge Lane.

My fingers were so cold at by Charlwood that I couldn't operate my gears!

Then , on leaving the Cafe, John Cz managed to coerce 9 of us (a few different faces this time) to return over Box Hill, Brrr!

Roads were safe and dry. Just a little slushy on the shadey side up to the Russ Hill Hotel.

Hope everyone else had a good ride too.

Good ride today with the 18s. I actually enjoyed the cold until I got home and started shivering

Riina and I didn’t last until the Box Hill. Sorry guys! Riina wasn’t feeling well so we reversed the club run, hoping we'll get home sooner, but in the end we got home clocking almost the same number of miles as if we went back via Box Hill :?

Overall really enjoyable club run! :) :)

BRRRRRRRRRR!!! This was a CR for the HARD men and women. Minus 4 when I set out. Rode out with the 17/18 group: Really nice lot - Sam, Mike (on his fixy), Martin, Amy, Robbie, Brian, Marcus, Lindsay and Peter.
Roads were Ok but we took it gingerly at known ice black spots (there wasn't any ice but better safe than sorry). We kept it reasonably tight, good calling, much tidier than some 17s I've ridden lately - well done everyone. Turned into a really pleasant day - lots of sunshine but never got above freezing. Amy took Partridge. The rest of us regrouped at the top of Rusper and gave it some welly to the cafe. Unfortunately we got split by a bus as we turned onto the main drag to Charlwood and things became a little ragged. Got in at 16.7 mph but given the weather and the mix of abilities I was happy.

Rode back with Peter, Brian, Lindsay, Sam. Swept up Robbie who'd presumably got dropped by another group. Kept a really good pace with Peter and Brian doing most of the work at the front. Had to stop to wait for Sam when I realised he wasn't with us (in fact he'd never been with us - we blasted off from the cafe and he couldn't get on so ending up riding on his own!).

I thought about riding up to Nonas for coffee and cake but my frozen toes screamed at me NOOOOOO!!! So peeled off at Redhill and home to thaw out me tootsies. Great ride as usual. thanks everyone. :D :D

Been there (left behind from the cafe) and riden home alone - character building!

Only John, Wayne and I stopped at Nonas out of the 7 who made home over Box Hill today. Good choice of cakes including a most excellent fruit cake which I partook of!
