[quote]A suspected bicycle thief was caught by police after they followed a trail of footprints in the snow.
The suspect was found shivering in a bush after a home-owner spotted him stealing a bicycle from his garage in Sutton, south London, and called the police.
Officers followed the footprints and a cycle track through several residential streets before noticing that snow had been knocked off a bin as he jumped over it.
The freezing 17-year-old was found in a bush nearby. Closer examination of his tracks also revealed sheds in another street had also been targeted.
Inspector Colin Baker, of Sutton Police, said: "This burglar left great big footprints for officers to follow so, despite the difficult weather conditions, officers were able to track him down, following the tracks in the snow."
The teenager was arrested on suspicion of burglary at about 3am on Friday and released on bail pending further inquiries.
Snow has proved to be a seasonal gift for police in Sutton who performed a similar trick during a heavy fall in January last year.
Two teenage burglars were caught carrying a haul of electronic goods after raiding a garage in minus 10C (14F) temperatures and leaving evidence of their escape route.
