Stolen Bikes - Cervelo R3, Orbea Orca, Turner Flux, Tricross

Sad to say that some scumbag has broken into my mate Steve's garage and stolen three road bikes and a mtb. We're checking the usual places but if anyone sees offered suspiciously for sale the following I'd be grateful to hear:

Cervelo R3 - white with black decals. Full Shimano 2009 Dura Ace compact. Dt Swiss 190 wheels shod with black/white Vredestein Fortezza Tricomps. Rear wheel may show signs of pothole damage. Black bartape, black/grey Fizik Arione saddle. Pedals are black and white Look carbon Keos.

Orbea Orca - 2006 model, blue on black carbon monocoque frame. Ultegra triple. Fizik Arione saddle. Pedals black carbon Keos. Front wheel is Easton Orion, rear is Shimano Ultegra, both shod with Continental tyres (not 4000S). Bar tape is black but quite scruffy, almost worn and grey with a woolly texture on the drops.

Specialized Tricross singlepeed 2008 - dark green/black. Black bar tape. Shimano spd mtb pedals, everything else standard.

Turner Flux mountain bike - Full 4-bar suspension, blue with polished swing arm.
Full XT
Hope mono mini disc brakes
Fox Reba front fork
Fox RP23 rear shock
Fizik gobi saddle
Mavic 313 rims on Hope hubs with black and blue Panaracer Fire XC Pros
Handlebar is a distinctive shiny blue alloy.
XTR Pedals

Thanks

sorry to hear that, i'll keep a look out on ebay, a couple of friends have had theirs stolen out of their garages recently, only thing i can say is keep your bikes inside where they can be seen more, garages seem an easy target, especially if not overlooked much

I might be being completely naive, but what kind of people would buy this stuff? A Specialized Tricross I can understand as a thief could easily spin a yarn as it being a commuter bike, and knock it out for a couple of hundred quid, and expensive mtbs seem to be a badge of honour among certain hoodrat types. But a Cervelo? Surely only a keen roadie would buy one of these and would expect some level of history from the seller? As I said perhaps I am just naive.

Well, I am a MAMIL myself and would have thought as a group we'd be more likely to drop a few grand in a bike shop

Two ways to do it Dombo.

Strip the bike down and sell bits on ebay under different identities - less likely as involves effort and more chance to get asked more questions.

Stick on ebay as a "it's a friend's bike and I don't know anything but can try and find some answers" sale. Looks more than a tad dodgy and most people would steer clear, possibly even report it as a dubious listing. However there's still a fair number of people left who'd pay say £500 for it no questions asked to get themselves a cheap deal. Buyer gets a very cheap deal, seller gets 500 notes for a few minutes work nicking the bike.

The 2nd one is only stopped by people's morals and there's a lot of people without any.
