Helpers Required - ACC Open 25mile TT -24/04/2011(am)

Dear Agreeables,

Your club needs your help.

I am promoting the Addiscombe Open 25 mile Time Trial on Sunday 24th April and need your help to ensure we run a safe event to the same high standards that we have become known for.

What is it: a 25 mile time trial that attracts 100-120 competitors from the South East.

Where is it: Predominantly on the A24, A2220 and A264 near Horsham with the outermost points of the course being Southwater, Tollgate Hill and Broadfield roundabouts. The course number is G25/53 for those that know their time trial courses.

When: Sunday 24th April. First rider off at 6.30am, last rider will clear the course 9.30-9.45am but we won’t be done at HQ until around 10.30am.

I am aware that being Easter Sunday will prevent some people from being able to help but would appreciate it from those that can. Although it is an early start you will be finished early. I will do everything I can to ensure that those not needed at the HQ after the race can be on their way as soon as possible.

It’s a complicated course with lots of roundabouts so needs a lot of marshals and other helpers. As a bare minimum to run a safe event we need:

2 pushers on the start line to hold the riders up enabling them to start clipped in and ready to ride.
13 marshals to point which way the riders should go at roundabouts and junctions. This is a minimum and more people enables people to double up and have a chat whilst marshalling.
3 checkers to keep a record of the order riders arrive as they reach the farthest points of the course – this allows us to deal with any allegations of riders turning too soon or drafting.
2 timekeeper helpers to spot and record the riders’ numbers as they come over the finish line and to phone results through to HQ.
1-2 results collector/board writer-upper to receive results from the finish line and enter on to spreadsheet, or write on results board, for riders to view as they come in for tea after event.
2-3 canteen helpers to make tea/coffee for riders, officials, spectators etc.

Please let me know if:
- You have a preferred job.
- You would like to marshal specifically with someone else (friend/partner/son/daughter).

I will do all I can to accommodate any special requests.

All helpers receive £5 from the club towards your costs for assisting in this event, you will need to go to the HQ after you have completed your job to collect your cash.

Your help would be greatly appreciated by myself, your club, and around 100 fellow local cyclists.

If someone can get me there, I'll do the canteen and make some more of that sponge cake last year's winner was going on about at the dinner - but this time I'll have a note on it saying "If my mum had baked this, it'd be even better!"

Once again thank you to those who have offered to help me promote this event on behalf of Addiscombe CC.

The HQ and start finish places have been taken, and some marshal spots, but I do still need marshals and checkers at the roundabouts. Please help if you can I would be very grateful.

Either PM or email me (andrewgreen23 [at] btinternet [dot] com)

Thank you.

Andrew.

Could anyone give me a lift?

I'm in Hackbridge and should be carrying at least a couple of cakes with me :D which will preclude me from bringing the bike and riding home.

I still need 8 people please to help as marshals and checkers (note rider's numbers as they pass the far turns to make sure no-one rides a short course).

Apart from a couple of places everyone is paired with either another marshal or check on their roundabout so you're not left on your tod. If I can get 10 rather than 8 then it would be very helpful to avoid the 2 solo spots being on their tod and having some company.

Your help is much appreciated.

I have put a notice on the board in the cafe with the details too so please do look there and point people to it who do not use the forum.

Thank you.

Hi folks.

I still need 6 helpers to run this event, although if I could get another couple on top of that it would mean a couple of people who are on there tod will have some company.

I would be extremely grateful if you are able to offer your services so that as a club we can run a successful event.

Thank you.

A shame you won't be riding Paul but thank you for your kind offer.
We may be forced to a course change due to roadworks, I should know fairly shortly if this is the case.
If we do change then it is still a Broadbridge Heath based event but a more north/south course heading out up the A24 and back down the A29 before a final up and down to Southwater to finish in the same place as the original course. If we have to change then I will go through all the kind offers of help and reallocate to the new course and let you know what the situation is re requirements.

Thank you.

Yes thanks Carl, I'll call in the next few days.
Getting PMs and notifications okay just for some reason my phone won't send replies, although works on all other internet functions, so have to send them from a proper 'pooter.
