Gober-store.com - Don't do it!

Postby Rogan » Tue Jan 25, 2011 4:28 pm

Just stumbled upon this web-site http://www.gober-store.com (complete fraud!) set up to tantalise global bike buyers with their vast product range and great prices! Whilst credit cards and paypal options are offered on the home page if you go as far as ordering a new bike (don't ask me how I know this) the only payment option is a wire to an Indonesian Bank account   Quite an elaborate website too - and you'll just love the prices...

If its too good to be true it usually is.

What a shame though, wouldn't it be nice to buy etc etc....

Well spotted Rogan!

Good spot. There are similar scams running on craigslist for most top end bikes you can think of. The adverts usually have attractive prices, £1200-£1800 and end with "I can ship worldwide!"
The "seller" purports to be in "Morayshire, Elgin" and cannot speak on the phone as he claims to have had maxillary work on his jaw which is wired up. He asks for payment via wire transfer to his bank, HBOS or Barclays.
I nearly got caught but luckily tried streetviewing his address and the externals didn't match the internal pics of what he was selling. Then googled his address and several aliases came up. All very suspicious.

Needless to say people, "Let's be careful out there". Sgt Phil Esterhaus RIP

I once had a similar email exchange with a scammer, kept me entertained for a couple weeks, it was fun to try and get them annoyed at you and think you'd baited. Wish I'd kept the emails, actually i might have printed them somewhere

Over the Christmas/New Year period, BBC Radio 4 ran "The Bob Servant Emails".

"Bob Servant is retired and a little bit bored. When he starts getting spam emails, he decides to play the fraudsters at their own game and soon has them in the palm of his hand."

I heard 3 episodes and they were very entertaining. They have just started being broadcast again:

Probably the one I enjoyed the most "Lions, Gold and Confusion" is to broadcast on Wednesday 2nd February, 23:15 on BBC Radio 4 - I am friends with a number of Nigerians who are always talking about these scams and this is an hilarious take. Enjoy if you can - I expect it should be on i-player

Delete and forget is probably the best way to deal with these people.
They are just as likely to be gangs of violent criminals as loveable rogues chuckling away in an internet cafe in Lagos.
There is enough information on the internet to track somebody down - the coward in me would rather stay off these characters' radar.

No, I wasn't advocating playing along, as you don't know what you might be opening your computer upto. :(

I was just drawing attention to a rather humourous serious of sketches. (Well, appealed to my sence of humour anyway) :D
Maybe I should get out more!
