Recommend me a TT

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Recommend me a TT

Postby Dan_K » Tue Feb 15, 2011 4:38 pm

Can someone recommend me a flat 10 mile TT for within the next few weeks please.
I'd like to get a benchmark time to aim to beat in the evening 10s.

Thanks.

Well pre-May in TT World is more "Sporting" so not a lot for you to pick from that are within a reasonable distance.
Sat 9/4 Charlotteville CC 10 on the Bentley course (A31 near Farnham) - 2pm first rider. A faster course than the Holmwood so may give you a hard target to chase in the club 10s.
Sat 23/4 South Western Road Club 10 - same course and start time as above.
Sat 7/5 Farnham Road Club 10 - same course and start time as above.
Sat 7/5 Kingston Pheonix 10 - Holmwood course (same as club 10s) 2pm first rider.

Thanks Andrew. I think a 90 mile round trip for the Farnham ones could be excessive but i'll look into the Holmwood one.

There are some other club events on the Holmwood and Horsham (G10/57) courses before ours start. Generally you can ride other club's events if you ask nicely and there are enough places.
Check the District Calendar on the London South District website

Or you could do a 400 mile round trip to the V718 on Good Friday and rule yourself out of contention for any handicap prizes.
Been there, done that, got the PB :D

You could ride the Q10/19 on the 9th of April at 6.30 in the morning.

It is one of the fastest courses around and I had my fastest 10 ride on it last year.
Lovely 40+ mph ski slope start that you don't have to climb back up.

I can't recommend a 10. 10s are horrible.

That said Dan, I'd almost be tempted to go for one before the club events. The one George mentioned looks OK (Google/Bikely) but also on 26th March there's one on this course and that looks pretty damned flat. Which is handy as I'm doing a 25 a week later on the same road.

If you're interesting in sharing lifts etc. let me know.

Q10/19 has a nice start but the rest of the course has some horrible surface. Due to constraints it can only be used very early and in April so it's normally cold. Personally I don't like it because of that, used to be very fast in the 80s as they had evening events and the surface was smoother.

I'm gonna keep my eye out for something that suits Phil. Based on my riding yesterday my fitness isn't as good as I thought it was!

26th March is my birthday (the big 3-0!) so I don't fancy doing a TT on that day.
