Dunsfold RR win for Addiscombe!

Postby George » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:42 pm

Great fun race this morning e had a good strong team entered for this 3rd cat race with 5 of us all in it.
Good weather nice and dry a little warmer then yesterday so great conditions for racing.

After a lap Paul, Rob and myself got away in a break with 4 others, it was still real early in the race but we had itchy feet. Paul and I really hammered the pace at first to get us a nice big gap from the peloton.
We all started in a thru n off but it wasn't very smooth with Paul, myself and a Kingston Wheeler doing the lions share of the effort.

After a lap of this Paul and I broke away on our own and slowly got reeled back in, then we tried again a couple of laps later, I could tell Paul was stronger than me as I was a little under par with my legs, and we got caught again with about 3 laps to go.

Our breakaway was finally reeled in by the peloton with over 2 laps to go.

Then Rob managed to get up the road with 4 others and they managed to stay away till the finish.
I attacked the Peloton hard with 1.5 laps to go and Paul came and joined me, he knew my legs were toasted so i told him to go alone, he then powered up to the breakaway containing Rob and 3 Kingston Wheelers and just rode straight past them with a fine solo effort for the win.

In just 1 lap he managed to gain 50 seconds on the bunch

I policed the peloton making sure I called out every car and hole to slow the pack with worked a treat they obeyed all my instructions

The funny thing was Paul must have shot past the breakaway in stealth mode as the Kingston Wheelers thought they won at the finish zipping up jerseys and saluting, little did they know Paul had already won

Will be fun reading their forum.

That course always seem to make for good racing.

Well done all and obviously Paul, think the wheels will stay on, you'll need them for 2nd cat races.

Cheers George was just about to post a report which is the same as yours but he it is anyway.

After getting a knee injury and not being able to run, I have been concentrating on my biking this winter. I knew my training had gone well and really wanted to win this race today.

With 1 lap gone, I got in a break with George and about 5 others. Unfortunately it was one of the worst breaks Ive been in - only George, a Kingston Wheelers guy and myself were doing any significant work at the front with the others sitting in a lot of the time. George and myself tried a couple of times to go our own way but got dragged back by the rest of the break. After a frustrating 30 miles the inevitable happened and we were caught by the bunch so my win was not looking so good.

We spent a couple of non eventful laps sitting in the pack and then George decided to have another dig and I couldnt let him go on his own so jumped onto his wheel and off we went. Unfortunately George legs were missing today and he bailed almost immediately leaving me out in front of the pack with about 10 miles to go. I was a bit committed now so thought I may as well trundle off on my own (ive been practising this on the CGs) and quickly passed Rob and a Redhill guy who were dangling 50 yards off the front and just drilled it as hard as I could.

I was feeling good, I had a good gap, I went through the bell and spent the last lap on my own on full gas crossing the line to win my first road race.

I had plenty of time to see the others cross the line and think Rob was about 8th with George, Richard and Dan in the pack.

Big thanks to all the ACC riders who came out to support and also to George for slowing down the pack for me.

Thanks everyone for coming out to support and cheer us on!

As you can see in the above photo Mr PVT followed Paul in for the win in his new Caterham kit car, which the organiser enjoyed

Apologies for the picture quality - I selected "Sports Mode" on my compact. I hadn't appreciated that this meant turn everything to grainy mush  .
