Bed and breakfast/hotel near the Dragon Ride Start?

Postby Nick W » Fri Mar 11, 2011 12:18 pm

Ideally a B&B or hotel that can accommodate anything up to 12 cyclists. Hopefllu something that will not break the bank. I know that quite a few have stayed down in or around the Bridgend area for this before so suggestions would be welcome.

I hasten to add that this is not for the Dragon Ride weekend itself (I suspect that must be largely booked up already).

Thanks.

I seem to remember shuffling past a Premier Inn at the start last year and in 2009. Cannot imagine it being booked up other than for Dragon weekend so probalby worth a try.

There's a Travelodge in Pencoed (right by the start). You could try that.
It was booked up for the actual weekend of the Dragon Ride so I got a family room (sleeping 3) for £19 :D at a Travelodge 12 miles away near Cardiff.

Some of us stayed at the Best Weston (here) a few years ago and think others have since. Was fine and reasonably priced, and plenty big enough to cope with your numbers as B&Bs would probably struggle normally being smaller converted house affairs. They let us lock bikes up (quite a lot of Dragon riders there) in an unused conference room but that may only be for the Dragon Ride weekend they do that. The car park is tucked away and sheltered so I'd feel happy leaving a bike in the car, but I would lock it to a solid bit of the interior and cover with a blanket to avoid advertising it.

...whereas I on the other hand would leave my bike not locked under a bright light so it did get nicked - thereby preventing me from doing the ride
