Message from Paul:
UPDATE:

Unfortunately, John Cochrane will be unable to make it now, and I have "lost" my lead car. Can someone step in and cover this for me?

Also, Joe Wand has advised that his mother is very ill and hopes to be able to make it, but cannot guarantee he will. Please can someone step in if he doesn't? (This involves driving round the circuit at about 2:30pm with drinks and food to the marshals)

I still don't have anyone to (A) collect the race aids and (B) to put the signs out - and collect them up afterwards…..Please can someone help out here?

(Iilya and Ben Jones phone numbers have been amended so please use this copy)

CANTEEN:
Joyce has made 6 fruit cakes and 3 sponges but wants some more help in the kitchen….

Amy will make 3 cakes maybe 4 (go on….) including her "fabulous sponge cake" - not to be missed.

As I said we have a full field of 80 hungry riders and reserves plus helpers and hangers on. Can you bake something? Or better still knock up some sarnies?

Jean Green has also volunteered.

GETTING THERE
Assuming someone can get the race aids for me I will be at Charlwood café and lead a ride to the HQ, leaving at 11:00am.

Would all marshals etc please make themselves known at the HQ at 12:30pm when I will give a safety briefing and allocate positions / red flags etc (as per attached if you prefer to had off directly)

Only 4 days to go and I have booked a warm sunny day, so you will have a great time out in the fresh air…..PLEASE HELP.

Many thanks for the help so far, but please can we go the extra mile to get this off the ground.

Regards
Paul

Any chance of fixing the road just after the M23 bridge?

goodness me - an ACC promotion this weekend and (notwithstanding the unavoidably short notice of some of these gaps) we still don't have enough helpers. Good job this doesn't happen at every event we run. Oh - hang on a minute, it does.

In case you are tempted to volunteer for the collection of the race aids I ought to share with you my experience of doing this two years ago. I volunteered to put the race notices up and to collect the race aids. Putting up the notices meant doing just that - around the course the week before. Bit of a drag but nothing too serious. Collecting the race aids - what does that mean? In my case it meant driving to Shere or somewhere (back of beyond) and picking up a huuuuge pile of signs, lights etc. Too huge to fit in my car. So I had to drive all the way home, then all the way back to Shere for another pick up. Whoop de doo. Then on the day of the race I dropped all the gubbins at HQ. I also swept all the glass from the course and in response to a second claim racer's request I did my best to clear a dodgy corner of grit and gravel. Back at HQ I mentioned this clearing attempt to the racer and he chose not to even acknowledge it. Part of me wanted to go and re-glass the road.

During the race I then got asked to take a (literally) bloody crash victim to hospital in my car. I did it.

In all I covered over 120 miles doing all this and yet when I asked the club if it might be OK to reclaim some petrol money the same guy who didn't tell me how huge the race aid pick up job was and who asked me to take the battered cyclist to hospital in my car said I should receive no compensation to offset my costs. Thankfully others saw fit to over rule him.

Shameful - that's what this is. Shameful. And we refuse to try to think differently and try to encourage folk to support the club of which we are all members and of which we all agree to support on joining. Still - there's always a good turn out at CSS for the club run eh.

  Snoop thats not good at all. I'll be there on saturday to help, lets hope what we do is more appreciated than you're extensive efforts two years ago.

Well done Snoop. With such indifference to your efforts from the organiser i'd have told him to stick it up his @r$e and gone home. And the crash guy - call an ambo. But you're a nicer bloke than me.
Hope to see you Saturday - i'll be at Prince Albert corner if you fancy a pint

Thanks to all the helpers and marshals, good event. Did overhear the NEG say, "what a good job the marshals did" :D

Anyone fancy 8 laps round there next week? Norwood Paragon's Les Ingman Spaces still available....

Well, it was a good day - all my cake went :D Just spoilt by a car load of idiots who thought it was funny to drive as close as possible and touch my @rse

One of the spectators at the Prince Albert turned out to be an old cycling pal of my Dad's and remembers me when from when I was still riding on the back of the tandem with my Dad  He was there with his daughter watching her son in the race (Francis - Kingston Wheelers). Glad I offered them a piece of cake :D
