Clincher

Postby Lucyap » Mon Apr 11, 2011 5:30 pm

Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation for a clincher tyre to use on tt bike. Want to use them for training, but also for racing when the weather doesn't look good for race wheels. Race wheels currently fitted with 22mm tub, and there's not much clearance!
Thanks, Lucy.

Would favour the Ultremo's, but both good for training/early season racing. Conti light weight butyl inner tubes would give a fast feeling

I use Conti 4000s on my good bike and very happy with them. ProRace(whatever number they're on now) are also good but a pig to try and fit on some wheels, I also found they cut easy than the contis.

Yes, Lucy does need to think about getting her tyres on and off - having 'lost' her one club run...

I can't have the wheels I'd really like because even the blokes find them hell to fit tyres on and off  Wonder if we could mention that to Campag...

Lucy

I have a pair of Conti Podiums which have been hanging in my garage for about 5 years or so. Only used them for 5 or 6 races as I upgraded my race wheels to tubs. Should get a seasons wear out of them I reckon.

Your more than welcome to them.

Lucy just reread your original post-sorry thats not what you want at all-those tyres won`t be any good for training at all.

I'm afraid you are going to have to be a little bit more scientific with your tire choice for a half IM Lucy

Oh and will probably try the DD myself next – 3-week old R1 version of the Ultremo and just suffered a latex tube blowout through a slash in the sidewall.

Strange coincidence....! Thought we were keeping the technical data between us though?

I realise now that I forgot to include the first page with the tires with the lowest rolling resistance - thank god for that - we are safe!

The 4000's can be a bugger to fit Lucy, but are sticky and offer good puncture resistance. I used these last year and have just put them back on the bike. , very pleased.

I recently got some 4000S's (because GB's had mis-priced them at £29.99). A bit early to tell but they haven't punctured or let go in a corner causing me to be killed yet. And like Marcus I did find them harder to fit than the old Gatorskins (in fact I scared the household shiftless by not noticing a bit of pinched innertube. Went up to 120psi before letting go).

I don't think that tyres are my main problem though.
