Flip flops on Middle Aged Bloke?

Postby Toks » Wed Apr 20, 2011 4:24 pm

I had a casual business lunch and one of the blokes turned up in jeans, shirt and flip flops. Jeans and shirt, fine of course; and I'm no arbiter of fashion but surely flip flops on the older man must be confined to the beach or swimming pool. Sorry if I've offended anyone

[quote="Toks"]flip flops must be confined to the beach or swimming pool.

Correct. That goes for anyone, not just middle aged blokes. Wearing flip flops in town should be punishable by amputation of the feet. That'll teach 'em.

Sorry but I'm lovin the flip flop vibe. Come on guys, free your toes (unless you have an unsightly fungal nail infection, or ringwork.)

How about turning your old Michelin's into a pair of these funky foot thongs:

I struggling to come with terms with having a business lunch in jeans, standards have slipped. People will be paying for it themselves rather than putting it on expenses next, it's a slippery road I tell you.

You should be OK Rob. When Australia left the British Empire to become independent, part of the new constitution allowed Aussies to wear flip-flops anywhere in the world in any weather conditions.

On our dress down Friday at work the other week we had a middle aged bloke come in wearing flip flops, we all looked on disapprovingly and shaking our heads...standards dropping etc. Later that day we heard that he had to go to hospital with a broken toe as it was run over by somebody by a chair with wheels.......shame

They are now banned at work :)

And they call them thongs here  . So when the one of the ladies in my office said she was thinking of wearing her thongs to the office I thought wow these aussie girls are a friendly bunch :P

I think it depends on the bloke - irrespective of age. I mean there are some fine specimens of 'youth' that you wouldn't want to see more than you have to...

However, I think flip flops are a tad too casual even for a casual business lunch or dress down at work. Mind you, some of the things some women wear to work would get them arrested. Then again, it's so warm and muggy in my office, I think I could wear a bikini and not feel chilly  and that's with so-called air conditioning...

Not quite sure flip flops work with jeans...

Don't they call flip flops something else in New Zealand? And what do Aussies call thongs then?

Smells lovely now - it's raining :D

When I worked at L&G I turned up for a meeting at the Warwick office in Bermudas a vest, a baseball cap and flip flops.
Even though it was casual dress the whole place came to a stand stil and I was the talk of the place.
I think casual dress was outlawed after that.

Marco, anyone who knows you would take that as normal ...
I'm with style guru David Cameron on this. Though perhaps morning dress a little too formal.

Thongs for the memory, Rob ...

Amy said: " think I could wear a bikini and not feel chilly"
I'm beginning to feel sorry I'm well past the middle-aged business meeting attendee stage ...
This thing could run and run
