Milland Hill 3rds

Rob, Andy, Peachy and myself participated today. Its not the type of course I like - a short 25% Hill and lots of descents.

As usual, I tried to get in numerous breaks but was shutdown pretty quickly every time. I also tried a solo attack which lasted about 5 seconds. Peachy was also pretty active as well and got in a break which was chased down by Dynamo riders.

With about 5 Mlles to go I tried one more attack even though I was feeling pretty tired after my previous efforts and managed to get a gap and was soon joined by Tom Gilbey a Dynamo rider. We worked together and established a race winning gap (no doubt assisted by LD riders in the pack) but unfortunately my legs were pretty tired and Gilbey was doing more work than me. The pack was coming back pretty quickly, I didn't think I could win, I didn't want to sit on his wheel, I didnt want to come 2nd so did a long turn before the last short steep climb and left Gilbey to it to win on his own. I sat up and let the remains of the pack come past and Darren came 6th, Andy I think 12th and Rob 13th. Darren was going well and 12th was pretty good for Andy considering the type of finish and his enormous weight.

Not a successful day but at least I established the race winning break and ruined the day for the pack monkeys. It also means I remain a 3rd cat and hope to be able to assist other ACCers to some success soon.

I spoke to Gilbey after the race and he told me I was a marked man today.

Happy Easter

 I'd guess a fair part of that weight must be the thick skin he has to carry around for any potential encounters with you Paul ;-)

Well done guys.

First race of the season for me - really pleased with 6th - felt good on the last lap and managed to get myself to the front on the last climb. Andy and I got slightly hampered by a car on the run in and I lost quite a bit of momentum - not sure if I would have made any more places up though? The final 25% ascent suited me and I managed to pick off quite few late on.

First time I have felt confident to try and get in some breaks - inspired by Paul's 'pep' talk on the way over. Nothing stuck but it was quite fun to give it a try....! London Dynamo had a couple of big men chasing everything back. One thing I really noticed was that Paul's card was fully marked. They seemed keen to keep him in sight and despite best efforts by me and Andy to sit on the front whilst he launched another coordinated attack - it lasted all of about 30 seconds...!

Nice ride from Andy and Rob W who finished in the leading bunch (half the field were 5 mins down according to the results sheet).

Roll on the handicaps and Cutmill....

Cheers,

Darren

Great report Paul and congratulations on a fine sixth Darren, be careful you'll be a second cat before the end of the season.
Congratulations to Paul and Rob in getting amongst the points.

Paul why not second?

Marcus, when you have had 2 wins, 2nd place ain't worth getting promoted for. You have to play the numbers game.

Sounds like a good attacking race.

Cheers

If I have to be a 2nd cat then it will be from another win. I probably wouldnt have come 2nd anyway unless I did a lot of sitting in which could have ruined the other guys chances.
