High Wycombe CC 25

Out on the H25/2 course for another blustery windy 25. On the 4 mile ride out to the start on the A404 i knew it was going to be a tough one in those conditions
Lack of marshalls or arrows on the 1st roundabout coming of the A404 meant i took the wrong turning and ended up taking the slip road back onto the A404 for about 100 meters instead of the old A4 so i had to unclip get of the bike run back up the slip road to the roundabout and get back on course
On the way back on the A4 i went wrong again and had to circle the roundabout before getting back on the A404.
Apart from going wrong twice,crap roads, being windy and taking 3 hours to get back home it was a great day :D
My time in the end was a new pb of 57.56 and 10th position which i think would have been a low 57 or even sub had i not gone wrong

I fancy having a crack at this ride soon, at least you got a ride the 50 Andrew and I had entered was cancelled due to traffic cones :roll:

Thats what I like - a nice eventful ride!

Well done for keeping your "head on"- I may have had a tenur pad moment and chucked it in.

I must admit that I do like to see the course before I ride it- I did drive to Bentley the week before I rode it and again on the day- ok if it's a 10, different kettle if its a 100.
Do any other of the regular TTers do this or have you the confidence to ride them blind?

I like to study the route and the elevation profile very carefully and make a mental note of the rise and fall of the course before I go out too fast and f*** it up. I know the A31 fairly well (relatives in Alton) so wont bother. Just so long as I know where the pub is in relation to the finish.

Depends. With most DC courses they're fairly simple so I don't tend to drive them first unless it's an afternoon event and it's easy enough to do. I stick them in bikeroutetoaster though so I can see a profile map to see where any little drags are to help with pacing. I also find seeing the course on a map helps me visualize the course. If it's a new course to me I normally googlemap the turns just to check them out and see what they're like. The P885 for example has a turn at either end on the 25 and 50 course and each one is a bit like a pretzel, one end you loop under the DC and loop back up to it and at the other end you loop up and over the DC. Nice to see them in advance on googlemaps.

With sporting courses I like to drive them in advance, normally just leave a bit early to drive it or if I'm not racing the week before ride out to it and have a ride round. I do this on sportings as they tend to have a hill or two and it's helpful to know where they are and what they're like, also the road surfaces can be iffy so it helps to pothole spot.

Thanks chaps!,chuffed with my time and look forward to the Army CU 25 on the 29th.It isn't full yet and its the last day for entry's tomorrow would be good to see some more yellow out on the course........
I have looked at the course map or directions of every TT i have done this season but too be honest if you don't know the roads like i havn't done as yet in any of the events iv'e done, when your tanking along 'in the zone' its hard to remember the course details. I know its up to the rider to study it but an arrow pointing in the right direction yesterday would have been a help. Not knocking the marshalls as they give up an early sunday morning but i have seen some much better than others organised events.
But still as George said it was my f"?k up :D

Nope that was it. a 10 (with a difference), a 100, a 30 and maybe a 25.
