Top service Topeak

Postby Marcus » Tue May 17, 2011 3:45 pm

On the club run return on Saturday my front wheel began to make shake and make strange noises. I jumped off the bike and found there were several spokes loose (this seems to happen quite regularly of late, must be my weight, shall shave legs to reduce it  )

Good job I had my Topeak mini 20 tool which has detachable chain tool / spoke wrench. After some tweeking getting the wheel straight I went to place the tool in my pocket when the chain tool fell to the floor, bounced and went down the drain. Ahhhhhhhh.

I thought about replacing the tool but instead emailed http://www.extrauk.co.uk the UK distributors for Topeak. Informed them what happened and hey presto I received the part this morning free of charge.

Thanks guys.

Great multi tools the topeak ones. It's one of the mini's I have for small saddlebag but the hummer tool is a bit bigger for more leverage and my favourite and lives in my commuting saddlebag along with a VAR tyre lever for speed and ease. The only tools you need to carry.

[quote="Andrew G"].... The only tools you need to carry.

Sometimes I carry a hammer. So I can put the hammer down.

I'll get my coat.

Marcus: is that your Boardman? I have heard tales about the spokes not being sufficiently tensioned - not to cast nasturtiums at any particular retailer's technicians. And LBS should be able to tension & true it for a few quid. Shouldn't keep coming loose.

The Ritchey's are in the LBS for the same reason, even after putting locktite on the nipples some still managed to come loose.
These are shimanos.
It could be my weight or the fact that since Christmas I've broken the car gearbox, two laptops, a printer and recently an Iphone and as I type this, the chair I'm sitting on
