Isle of Wight

I know that many of you will be familiar with the IOW but for those of you who aren’t I would thoroughly recommend it as a great place for cycling. There are lots of different routes, some fantastic scenery, quite a few hills if you want to do some climbing and the best bit, hardly any cars. In over 100 miles we received no abuse not a honk! How refreshing is that. :D On top of great cycling, Dave L and I went to visit Dave’s old man and Addiscombe CC legend (words of the club captain) John “The olden” who made us very welcome. If you happen to be visiting the island then pop in and see John, I know he would appreciate your company.

It is nice.Has anyone ever thought of doing a club trip there in, say October? A circuit of the island, some local real ales and maybe a pie or two ...

Martin, perhaps you can help drum up more interest in our annual IoW bash at the end of the season (normally October). We stay in Yarmouth for the weekend and ride round the island in one day and the evenings are habitually spent in one of the pubs in the town, sampling some of the local produce. Last year, there was something about pies going on....

WAGs are also invited to come along as they can go off and amuse themselves while we're out circumnavigating the island.

Oh look, Phil got there before I did

Definitely should repeat the annual Island bash. Just make sure it is after the Catford and Bec hill climbs as I intend to bring my "local" prodigy up for both of these this year so why not 15th/16th Oct.
C'mon guys, you know it makes sense. :D

Thought I'd revisit this post and start things rolling...

I'm up for this - 15/16th October sounds good for me and I should still have a couple of days leave left :D

Be nice to get a decent group for this as it's fun and sociable. Last year there was only a small group of us and we rode round together CLOCKWISE in a break with tradition  but we could have different speed groups, people doing different things etc so long as we all meet up in the evening to swap tales of who ate what pies and where (or test the beer-proofness of watches...)

WAGS and HABS welcome to come too.

So who would be up for this?

I'm thinking of creating a thread in the trips section and link from this post for people to sign up.

Come on, folks! I know it's early days yet but at least register your interest in coming along! You can confirm nearer the time.

So far it's just me and  jnr... and maybe Jon Hemming

So, I really need help, I mean, we really need some more people to come along and make it a real fun ACC event :D

And don't worry, hopefully we won't have to suffer Mr Hemming dancing topless on the tables again...

Would there be greater interest in this if we changed the date to the weekend after the ACC RR?

So that would be the 22/23 October.
