London 2011 Cycle Challenge

Postby McTaffy » Tue May 24, 2011 2:12 pm

After discussing with Monty I have created a team to participate in the London 2011 Cycle Challenge.

It's all fairly simple.

1) Create an account on https://cyclechallenge.tfl.gov.uk/
2) Find the team - The Agreeables
3) Request to join the team.

From 18th June to 15th July enter the number of miles you cycle each day (rounded up to the nearest mile). These do not have to be entered on a day to day basis so once a week would be sufficient, for example.

At the end of the month there is prizes:

Team Size 1st prize 2nd prize 3rd prize
2-10 £75 £35 £20
11-50 £150 £75 £40
52-100 £350 £150 £75
101+ £750 £350 £150

Personally I think we have a good chance of winning the £750 if everyone participates, and my suggestion is the money goes into the club funds.

Note:
First date to enter miles - 9am on 18th June
Last date to enter miles - 6pm on 18th July
You can join the team at any time and back date your mileage if needed.
Mileage enter is performed on an honesty basis, in addition you do not need a bike computer to calculate an accurate mileage, use a website etc to work out your mileage if required. (Remember to round up and not down).

If you have any problems joining the team etc. then PM me and I will try and assist.

Done - but I think you might have a hard time beating Team SCR from Bikeradar Commuting.

That team doesn't exist as far as I can see. The problem one at present is the Met Police with 109 members. And some of them can cycle on the job.

Ah - they are down as Silly Commuter Racers. They won last year by a fair amount.

Get enough people in and we should be able to rack up a good total though. I believe that it's any miles done anywhere by anyone who lives in, works in or can spell Greater London - which is handy as I do very little cycling actually in Greater London.

Yes it is:
Work, Live or Study in Greater London to be eligible to join a team. Based on this I can't see many members not been eligible.

And the mileage can be anywhere in the world for any reason, as long as it was on a bike with 2 wheels or more.

Apart from those of us who don't work, live or study in Greater London.

Well obviously, but Coulsdon and beyond is Greater London still, and who would really check that every member of the team is in Greater London, especially as you don't need to give them a home, work or study address when you sign-up. Although I guess they might check everyone if the team wins.

can't one just lie about their mileage? Me, I did 500 miles last week, type of thing, 50 miles each way to work

Yes you could, only your conscience is stopping you doing that and the fact that they may query it. However if you can prove that you are an avid cyclists and this is how you do your 50 miles then you could get away with it.

I am sure some people do cheat, but doesn't it feel so much better if you win honestly.

So come on Peeps start registering so we can get a feel on how we may do.

BTW you can still register with The Agreeables even if you have already joined a team, just sign up with a different email address.

Hey mate

Sorry, but I can't be bothered logging on my miles for both my work and for the CC! Besides, I don't think as a CC we need to prove to anyone how many miles we do on the weekends - we're a pretty huge club in terms of membership, and most of us do around 50 miles per club run. Not bad.

I signed up to my work team because I reckon more of my workmates should be riding bikes considering we are an environmental charity.... (I won't name and shame them on the forum though!) So, I hope that my mileage can inspire them a bit.

That's what the cycle challenge is supposed to be about anyway. The 'lycrans' are already converted.

Cheers

No probs JP good luck getting them on wheels.

As hopefully a team of 100+ competing against other large teams the getting people onto bikes is not really a consideration. The main thought was to try and get £750 worth of bike equipment for the club.

And obviously with the different team size we should not be competing with teams like your workplace.

As I say good luck and maybe my workplace will be giving you a run for your money :p
