road surfacing on box hill route..

Take care if your out in the Surrey lanes going to Boxhill.. The last few miles leading to turn off just after the pub ( Blackbush ?), have had what must be 20 tons of gravel spread all over them.. Parts of it are really bad, like cycling on a beach, and had me cycling in oncoming lane ... If this is what counts for 're - surfacing ' in Surrey its a joke..

I am guessing its more rural surrey that's getting the gravel. I say this as I have seen a lot of resurfacing in the last year and can only say I have been impressed. I guess they forget that 2 wheeled vehicles use these roads and gravel is not good for us and doesn't really repair any damage properly. Didn't you know that the only cyclists that exist are commuters and all cycle into London from no more than 10 miles out. Maybe its a new scheme, to raise money, get people of bikes and into cars so more is paid in petrol duty?

hi McTaffy- this is not a nice bit of tarmac by any means - I have just been onto Surrey Council website to complain about it.. The actual road is Blackbrook Rd leading to Chart Lane South..

Hi Brian,
after doing the club run for the first time in almost half a year I was surprised by the 'resurfacing' in some places, just as you describe, loose gravel, slowly getting embedded by the traffic but still lots of loose stones etc and a bumpy ride, recently been cycling in Kent and I haven't seen this type of repair (granted I haven't seen much repairs, but the roads do seem a bit better).
