The reason for my letter is that we have also had increased reports of anti social and inconsiderate cycling, in particular complaints about groups of cyclists blocking roads by cycling in "pelotons".
I too have seen some anti-social and inconsiderate cycling. I have also seen at least equal amounts of anti-social and inconsiderate driving. Being a regular Surrey driver, I've yet to receive a similar letter from the police regarding this.
One issue I have is with
in particular complaints about groups of cyclists blocking roads by cycling in "pelotons". A group of two abreast cyclists is indeed a peloton, but how is this blocking roads? Since when did motorists have priority over cyclists? Any car driver wishing to overtake simply has to await a safe opportunity to do so. On a narrow country lane, a motorist may have to be patient for a number of minutes. Perhaps us cyclists don't appreciate just how important these complaining car drivers are?
We as a club, could probably be more considerate to others in the size of groups that tend to form on the way back from the cafe though. This can make it difficult to overtake safely for a fair distance.
