Hi Guys, I'm off to Mallorca next week but on my return I'll be writing a task/ action sheet, so if there are any updates on your availability please let me know. OK guys, we are up to 157 now with a month left to get it to maybe 200+. We have 35+ Addiscombe riders - faaaaanastic! . Anymore for anymore? Nonna's cafe has today agreed to provide/sell a welcoming coffee and cake on riders return to the HQ. He asks what people might most appreciate/buy after a ride. Any thoughts?

Thanks to people who are still helping and offering ideas. I will be working on the task/duty allocation for the ride after the weekend when I plan to do the May flyer - they have over 450 but we could easily build to that if wishing to repeat in subsequent years. I still have some flyers if there are parts we have yet to reach?

I am at present allocating responsibilities. I have taken into account people who have offered help and I will be needing you all and if fact 3 or 4 more on the day. If anything has changed and you cannot help on the day please let me know. Can you send me a pm with your email address and mobile number. I will let you know your areas quite soon but I am assuming you are available all day, so do let me know if that is not possible. BTW we are up to 173 entries

On behalf of Addiscombe Cycling Club Club thank you for entering The Addiscombe Challenge. The start and finish will be Chipstead Valley Primary School, Chipstead Valley Road, Coulsdon, CR5 3BW
Sign on is from 7.30am, the ride starts at 8.30 am in groups off 15 @ 2-3 min intervals.The route will be marked with signs and you will be briefed before you start.
Sign on procedure - there will be a start sheet. Locate your number and collect it attaching it to your handlebars with plastic ties provided – note the emergency number, collect a goody bag with a bar, gel, map and time sheet and then line up at the start where your leaving time will be noted on your sheet. You do not need to check this at feed stations only on your return.
The feed stations will be stocked with food and drink, the first is at Soutwater Village Hall, RH13 9BT, about half way round and the second is just North of Rusper but is just quick roadside stop without the benefit of toilets.
There will be a bike mechanic at the start and she will roll through the groups assisting anyone in trouble at the roadside. She will have a small supply of spares but for cash sale. Should you need the mechanic, or Sag Wagon then please call the emergency number on the reverse off your ride number. It is xxxxxxxxxx. There will be a qualified first-aider at the HQ should you return with minor injuries but call emergency services if you need immediate attention.
There will be a photographer on the course so remember to smile.
As you cross the finish line your number will be removed and the time that you finish will be noted rounded down to the nearest minute. At the HQ there will be an Italian coffee shop, Nonna Rosa's to sell hot and cold drinks and food.
There is ample parking on the school field and marshals will direct you.

Mike Ingram from 7.30am Meet, greet, direct arrivals in cars, with A N Other supervise parking act as Deputy I/C if Alan is distracted by emergencies, Timing, award judge and handing out certificates with Joyce and A N Other

Angelo, from 7.am, set up Nonna Rosa's at HQ

Kieren, from 8.am – 10.30, Rider despatch, 3 minute intervals from 8.30 onwards, mark times on sheets, safety briefing. Mention, 1. hazards (see website), 2. Signs, show and tell – yellow signs black arrows + yellow road markings. 3. feed stations – especially first one half way round and no need to show time sheets, make sure you have supplies for 42 miles, Southwater Village hall, then on road North of Rusper. Wish good luck and release at time marked on Sheets.

Tim Coales From 7.45 am – 10.30, manage entry on the line, complete relevent details on start sheet provided, take cash or cheques reconcile at end of session.

Rachel, from 8.am, Qualified first-aider, early part of the day helping with finding rider number, giving out supplies and generally where needed in the afternoon with TimNick on Rider reception and timing, otherwise tending the wounded.

Phil Hawkes + George Allen From 8 am, first part of the morning help generally with riders, meeting greeting, car parking, fixing on numbers, giving out supplies, maps etc. snipping plastic ties etc. Then go to 2nd Feed station which is just North of Rusper at first fork junction, set up table, gazeebo, water, food. Take a track pump etc.

George and Murray – George from 7.15 am , set up flags at school entrance then with Murray, take gazeebo, food and water bottles, head off for Southwater and set up feed station, taking 1 flag. check on signs on the way. Collect keys from Maggie, 01403733411. Lock up and leave keys with keyholder. Check on 2nd feed station at Rusper on return and share and unused food if needed.

Phil Nash – from 8.30am sag wagon, recovering stranded or exhausted cyclists a looking for lost souls

Kay Patton, Bike Mechanic, from 7.30 am – set up to help people at start of day, bike checks. Respond to call outs, from around 9.30- 10.00 ride the route offering help where necessary, thereafter set up at Southwater Village hall feed station and after last rider move on to Rusper Feed station

Jayne Charlton and Steve Smith From around 11.00 begin to recover signs. Relay information on any struggling cyclists for sag wagon.

Joyce, from 1.00pm hand out certificates and merits, with Mike and A N Other

I am very pleased with the outcomes of the event and of course it owes everything to your efforts and teamwork. People have been very complimentary and I have included some comments below to give you a flavour. Thank you for organising a fantastic event yesterday. The course was excellent; scenery was stunning and enough hills to push me to my limit. The club atmosphere was great and such a good idea to have catering, a hot plate of pasta was most welcome after the rain and killer of whitedown. I am looking to join a club and will come and join one of the Saturday rides soon.

just a quick line to say I really enjoyed Sundays Surrey Hills sportive - great fun, friendly organisers and participants - hopefully the first of many! This was the best Sportive I have done, thanks again.

just wanted to say thank you for the ride on Sunday, this has been my first ride over 35 miles, the ride was brilliant and so well organised. Thank you very much, I will keep my eye open for the next one

Just to say how much I enjoyed the ride yesterday, very well signed, an interesting route and excellent organisation. I hope you felt all your effort was worthwhile.

My plan to start early, ride steady and wait for a slightly faster group failed as the only riders to catch me were riding with real purpose and I wanted to leave something in my legs for the last 25 miles. As a result I reckoned I did the best part of 70 miles on my own but I was pleased with my time and it should be good training for the Etape.

Thanks to all the organisers, we had a really good day.
Set off in a group of 4 all riding well, we picked up up and dropped off a range of others along the way. All going well through the feed stop, up to the foot of Coldharbor. We ground up Whitedown then on to Box Hill for the finish just before the rains set in. My four friends also rode their first sportive and were very pleased to get round in one piece.

Great job to make everything run smoothly. Excellent course. The Nonna's pasta at the end was a masterstroke.

My first ever Sportive. Yes it was challenging - goodness know how I'd feel now if it weren't for the training I've had of late but it was perfectly organised. Having Nonna's there was a stroke of genius (hope they did well); I overhead several speaking very warmly about it. Despite the welcome pasta, it was the slowest Chipstead to Addiscombe return I think I've ever done, and right now my typing fingers are about the only part of my body with any energy in them. Thanks again; whatever you organise for next year, I'm up for it.

Thank you for putting on such a good event. It looked like a huge amount of work had gone into the preparation and delivery, and - being one of the riders - everything seemed to run smoothly. The signage was great, the route was challenging, just a shame about the rain later on.

I just wanted to drop you an e-mail to say a massive thanks to you for organising the addiscombe sportive yesterday. It was the first sportive that I've done, and it was such a good day. The organisation was 1st class and all of the volunteers were a credit to you and our club. I rode most of the day with non-Acc'ers and all were very complimentary about the route, the signing and the rest stops. To be fair they were complaining a bit up white down but they were smiling at the end!

The food from Nonna's was great and even the weather at the end couldn't ruin a good day on the bike. Thanks again for all your hard work in organisation and I hope that the money raised can make a real difference to the Peruvian groups you support. Most importantly I think there was the support and take-up to make it an annual event and make it a real showcase for the club and the routes we ride every week.

I wanted to e-mail you to thank you for hosting a very enjoyable and well organised event yesterday. It was my first sportive, but made a very favourable impression despite the 1300m of climbing and the rain! I look forward to entering again next year.

Thanks all for the organisation that went into the event. The route was just right and had a sound balance of climbs and some lovely descents I've certainly not ridden before and I for one was pleased to get back before the proper rain came over.

From my point of view, having ridden Sportives arranged by other organisers too, there was was nothing missing in this one. Good signage (backing up with paint on the road is a definite advantage to mitigate the attention of the toerags), good food stop in a weatherproof location with toilets, and a good route with variety and away from the worst of the traffic, as much as is possible in the area. I look forward to riding similar in the future, and I proudly showed the wife my gold star award when I arrived home.

The route marking was certainly adequate and we never went wrong but I feel a few more confirmatory signs might be a good idea. The map was excellent though and provided reassurance that we were always on course. I look forward to incorporating some of the route that was new to me on my training rides.

many thanks alan for a great days cycling on sunday, i had a great ride i found it very hard and hilly but finished and when i stop aching will be looking forward to next years event. the venue you used was fab i have done about 5 events before and never had food at the end but i realised that is just what i needed.

Hi again all those who helped last year and anyone else who may help this time. Last year's ride was very successful and generated many favourable comments and good press coverage. We are back in the process of arranging the next Sportive and the countdown is 6 weeks to go!

I am trusting that some of you may volunteer again but I probably won'ty need quite so many since we have an electronic timing for start and finish and Dudley Samuels will manage the registration process- last year we had 250 + entries but it seems very low at the moment so I really need as much help as possible with publication and distribution of flyers and word of mouth and of course registration of yourselves

Course planned and available but needs to be safety checked by riding it again - Thanks Pete
I need help with printing maps from the route - Andrew helped with this last year?

4. Someone needed to source and buy and prepare fruit, cakes etc. for half way stop

6. Man half way feed station and deliver provisions

I think that is all and I am hoping to hear from some of you

BUT, I really must stress that the numbers are very low and much help will be needed to publicise this event or it will be an embarrassing flop - Please please sign on NOW if you intend to do it and if anyone has further suggestions for supporting this event please let me know,
