It must be all the wind he produces that gives him a boost from behind.

Yes, interesting that with all the resources professional teams have at their disposal they'll base an athlete's diet on the opinion of a spine-cracker and a bloke who's written a diet book.

As I always say, if you want something done or buried, do it or dig it yourself.

Wasn't Robert Millar a vegetarian?

What a plonker. Everyone knows you need some Spanish steak in your diet if you're going to do really well in le Tour.

There was an entire pro team - Linda McCartney - who were supposed to be veg, but I doubt they enforced it. The whole thing was a bit fishy :?

I think it's commendable and there is no reason why a vegan diet would not suffice! I've been cutting meat out for the last few months (not easy with my Argentinian heritage!) and have a lot more energy etc. He will probably needs supplements, but all the riders take supplements none the less!

Good read re protein comparison meat v veg:

"Paul H".....]Wiggins confessed that none of them kept to the veg diet.

Thats probably because she tried to make 'em all eat nothing but those dodgy microwave pies she used to sell, I've been a vegetarian for 20 years and I woundn't eat that muck!

May I make a few recommendations, I have been told by a good nutritionist that Calves Liver and Steak are the foods I should concentrate on eating the most, so I presume the Iron and Vitamins that we use on cycling are gained most from these foods. I therefore would recommend the following establishments:

http://www.thehawksmoor.co.uk/
The fillet or the porterhouse are awesome and you can order pretty much any size.

http://www.rowleys.co.uk/lunch.html
The chargrilled Entrecote is fantastic.

http://www.gauchorestaurants.co.uk/
One for Argy, very good, the Churrasco di lomo is excellent, although the wine list is a little overpriced in my opinion.

Cheers

Ha! Thanks Marek! :D a better Argy restaurant is: A La Cruz - http://www.alacruz.com/alcindex.php?page=about - 42 Northampton Road, Farringdon, London, EC1R 0HU

and

Buen Ayre - http://www.buenayre.co.uk/review_03.htm - 50 Broadway Market London E8 4QJ

I have been many times to both and highly recommend them! :) (even though I hardly go now as I am a "flexitarian" these days)

Shame he's started eating fish, I thought he was vegan. How does fish help with absorption of iron??

I have Brendan Brazier's book - the protein shakes are pretty good, based on hemp protein (which contains all 10 essential amino acids) and flax seed for omegas.
