Despite the club name, this was definitely a 25 not a 100. I'd double and treble checked just in case.
This was on the R25/7 course; a pretty fast course in south Wales between Usk & Monmouth, but not the mega-fast comp record course which is even further into sheep shaggin country.
I was making a weekend of it; this 25 on Saturday afternoon followed by the Tour of the Black Mountains on Sunday. Steve Davies was also on the start sheet, but he was just on a day trip.
Bit of a gift downhill start on a country lane, so 30mph+ for the first mile or so, then onto a pretty flat dual carriageway with a nice smooth surface all the way to the turn. A couple of miles of sporting course type stuff at the turn then back onto the DC. Bit of a nasty finish as you have to turn off the DC and do a 270 degree loop up and over then another few hundred metres to the chequered flag.
Woohoo, 59:14, back under the hour for the first time since 2007. Got the monkey off my back.
Steve seemed to have recovered well from the 24, and knocked out a new PB of 56:46. Chapeau to that man.
