Cardiff 100 Miles RCC 25 - 9 July

Another trip to South Wales for a ride on the nice R25/7 course - this event is almost traditional for me now. This time I had company with Jon also riding with us both off at the back end of the field, Jon 9 mins in front of me. The conditions were quite nice when I arrived being quite bright and warm with light wind. By the time Jon and I were starting it had clouded over and cooled a bit and there was a hint of rain in the air.

I got to the start suffering from a bit of an adrenalin overload and feeling quite rough. For the first time ever I fluffed my start and almost rode into the start timekeeper - only quick thinking by the pusher off, who grabbed my saddle, kept me upright. After this inauspicious start it took me about ten minutes to settle down just as the rain started but luckily it stopped almost immediately. Things picked up from then on and I was just short of the halfway point when the eventual winner caught me for three minutes. My time was inside 29 mins so I knew I was going quite well at this point and knowing the course quite well I felt that the return leg wouldn't be too bad given the wind conditions. So it proved, though I was very surprised to see my computer showing me inside 57 minutes at the finish. The result board said 56:46 a PB by 31 seconds :D :D - so smiles all the way home! Jon also went well beating his LTS time with 59:14. Where were you George?

The reason for the fast time? Well I could put it down to all those long miles but I suspect my new bike had something to do with it. Yes I finally lashed out a one of those new fangled carbon aero jobs with more gears than you can shake a stick at (you only need a handful on this course) and this was my first ride in anger on it. Now all I need is a disk wheel for it...

Well done both of you for getting under the hour and a spanking new PB. A new bike is always good for an extra k/h.

Nice one Steve-have you donated the old bike to the museum yet-only joking. Well done to you two.
