Do you want the hottest tickets to watch the London-Surrey Cycle Classic?
Find out how to get your tickets to watch 148 elite cyclists from Box Hill

Do you want to watch the London-Surrey Cycle Classic from the best spot on the route?

Spectators will be able to watch the action along the majority of the route, but 3,400 people will be given wristbands to watch the race along the 1.8km stretch on Zig Zag Road in Box Hill. Here, spectators will get the chance to see the 148 elite cyclists pass twice, as they lap Box Hill before heading up towards central London to the finish line.

The area is being restricted to protect its precious environment, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The race is taking place on Sunday 14 August 2011 and will act as a test event for the 2012 Olympics men’s and women’s road races.

The wristbands are available to local residents, youth groups and keen cycling enthusiasts and will be allocated using a number of methods.

If you want to be there, find out how to apply for tickets at www.gosurrey.info/cycling.

My CTC membership is up for renewal. I only joined to get the insurance which is a requirement to be a member of ACC and also sensible. I have never used any other services offered.

would I therefore be better off joining British Cycling or renewing my membership. If I join BC which membership do I need as I have no plans to race.

I would argue that the CTC do more for grass roots cycling then BC. Certainly their campaigning has been more successful.

Back on topic, do we as a cycling club not count as cycling enthusiasts for an allocation of the coveted wristbands?

Everyday Cycling membership which I have should be enough. I'll check the site tonight.

More loop holes than bloody pot holes.

Click here, click there, click everywhere. So if you're not a member of British Cycling your stuffed?

I sure the 'club' could apply, thus ensuring as they say 'keen cyclists' can get wristbands.

i would like to think so.

it appears that BC only got a few hundred and they've given them to BC officials and others that run cycling - your bog standard member didn't get a look in.

we could apply as a club (although not technically in the County of Surrey so might get rejected anyway) but we have to give them six names up front i.e. I can't apply for six wristbands and then give them out to ACC members.

I live in Surrey so I applied and I think I'm in the ballot for two wristbands.

I'll take that as a possible NO then LOL.

I'm sure they won't be able to secure the entire Hill, just try to keep my friends, pickynicky, wine stash, family, cameras and ME out. I don't think so!

Marky Mark on tour :D

Why am I not surprised? This typifies the BC attitude: "We run cycling for us and our benefit, not for the cycling public."

Basically, if it is not elite level racing (or at least raising money for elite level racing), they are not really interested.

Good question - Does anyone know what part of Box Hill and environs are going to be restricted access?

Looks like most of it. There's a small spectator area but the rest seems to be closed off, and there's only limited bike storage which is quite a way from the viewing spot. Here are the details:

As others have said, the organisers seem to be adopting a bit of a "f*** you" attitude to anyone with a keen interest in the sport as anywhere on Box Hill has to be the best place to watch.
