riots in South London

Postby kieran » Tue Aug 09, 2011 9:37 am

So, reports please, what's it like in war torn Croydon? Yesterday I commmuted through Peckham, all was nice, decided to go through Brixton today, not so bad, just saw a burnt out sports shop. I think they had expected Brixton to kick off as the main street was closed off yesterday on the way home.

If you fancy some new trainers I hear there are some bargains to be had in Brixton market today.

surreal riding up the Purley Way this morning at 6am:

4 or 5 Police vans parked along the road and the windows of John Lewis, PC World, and Comet completely smashed in, although it doesn't look like the feckers got inside. Continued carnage through Norbury and Streatham and a few shops done over in Brixton. Shops that got the worst seem to be phone stores, off-licences and bookies.

From a friend who lives just off York Road in Wandsworth and has to walk through the estates to the station:

"The winstanley estate seems to be immaculate. Streets clean. No damage. Apart from all the brand new trainers boxes, phone accessories packaging and panasonic branded cardboard boxes. Who could have smashed up the neighbourhood all night?...There don't seem to be any obvious clues."

I hear the Rockbottom guitars was too. What kind of world will we end up with if bikes and guitars are no more. The striking and scary thing about all this is the utter fealrlessness (is that a word?) of these people. I can't imagine what the Reeves family and other business and home owners caught up in this are feeling like today. Shocking.

I blame the Labour party.

Did they take the ACC kit?

That should bring down local drug delivery times.

Although hopping a C50 around the Whitgift Centre without pedals should prove a challenge for the little scumbags

Butlers had 6 bikes stolen, Colnago EPS, couple of Pinarello Dogmas, including a £10k one and 3 other Pinas.

Cycle King was cleared out, someone even cycled down to Bike Plus, dumped the Cycle King bike and "upgraded" to a mountain bike!!

None of the ACC kit was taken.

I think the rot started under the Tories - and 'New Labour' didn't help being led by Tory Blair. It's all about consumerism and want want want

Hope Reeves rise up successfully.

The rot started well before the Tories who had to make the hard choices after Labour left the country in a mess as usual.

I dont think it is about consumerism. Its more than that. Benefit dependancy, non working culture, thinking the country owes you something, over population, soft on crime - all the things Labour are responsible for.

A 26-year-old man shot in a car in Croydon last night has died in hospital, Scotland Yard says.

All about taxes?
