Computer geek needed!

Postby CaroleH » Tue Aug 16, 2011 4:26 pm

I need someone who knows about computers! My laptop has gone kapputt!!! I don't care if it never works again, although it would be nice, however, I need the photos which are stored on the hard drive. Plus, I transferred photos onto a USB stick which, surprise surprise, we have managed to loose. I deleted them off the computer, however does anyone know if there is a way of retrieving them? I know computers store history of everything, but does it do this even when the bin has been emptied??

Help would be appreciated and we aren't expecting it to be done for free!!

If no-one on here can help then try these guys, helpful and seem to know their stuff and often have people in with techie questions and are surrounded by machines in various states of dismantlement and repair.

Take a look at OnTrack they can get back stuff that mere mortals can't. Very good service and turnaround. Not cheap, but that depends on you personal valuation of those photos etc.

They're based in Epsom for the UK arm.

I can't help with the technical stuff I'm afraid, but have you checked in the box of Lego for the memory stick?

If the laptop is totally bricked it is probably something on the motherboard that has fried. Good news being that it shouldn't have effect the hard drive which can just be removed and placed into a usb chassis and read from another pc. As for lost photos on the hard drive, well that depends on the amount of use the hard drive has had since the deletion. If they are still in the rubbish bin they can easily be restored, Whatever you do, do not defrag the hard drive until you attempt to recover the photos.
