Loan bike for women maybe?

Postby Alan M » Fri Sep 02, 2011 5:22 pm

Further to the ideas associated with the Sportive, since even after supporting the agreed cause there was about £1000 profit remaining I wondered whether it might be an idea to buy a racing loan bike suitable for a female rider of average height since one of our aims is to promote cycling among women. What do you think?

I agree that a loan bike would be useful. My spare bike a Scott, has been used by various people over the last 4 years as an unofficial ACC loan bike, Mostly by women who haven’t been sure if they want to move from hybrid type to road bike. but I am not sure that the bike needs to be woman specific, small yes but you will get more for your money if it’s not a womans frame, perhaps even 2 bikes for the same cost, doubling the number of people who could benefit from the loan.

Perhaps even we could compile a list of spare bikes, I bet there are many people in the club who like us have ok ish bikes that just sit in the shed. Who would rather see them used than rust away

[quote]female rider of average height

I'm interested to know whats considered average height for a women?!

But anyhow . . . I'm all for [quote]promoting cycling among women

but I'm not convinced that this is the best way to spend a grand . . . I do like Jo's idea of a list of spare bikes suitable for loan.

Lucy.

1.637 m (5 ft 4 1⁄2 in) ages 25–34

I imagine maybe a little taller taking account of the population demographic and predominantly SE England
