SPEED JUDGING COMP NEXT SAT 10th SEPT

Copy of my latest email newsletter for those of you that junk my emails! :D

Dear Agreeables

Important date for your diary - Next Saturday 10th Sept 2011 - directly after the CR to Charlwood we have the Addiscombe CC Speed Judging Competition for the Nonna Rosa's Trophy and there'll be cash prizes!!!! WOW!!!!!!! A chance to ride your bike, win a nice trophy for your sideboard and get rich???? Does life get any better????!!!!

'How does it work?' I hear you clamour.

Well, it will take place on a short circuit near the Pine Cafe, Charlwood (exact route top secret). This is exciting isn't it? We can do our normal CR, enter the competition, and then ride home together! What could be easier? PVT has calculated times for a range of average speeds. Participants must state the speed they intend to ride the circuit at and the closest to their speed(time) wins. This means that every member has a chance to compete, and more important...to WIN!!! BTW of course you have to remove your computer before you set off - otherwise it would be silly wouldn't it?

This is a bit of end of season fun and we'd really want your support to make it a success. Angelo from Nonna's, who, as most of you know, is a massive supporter of our club, has donated a really nice Trophy and it would be great if the event were well supported by us.

Be there or be square!!!

Best wishes, as always

Captain Jon

Thanks to Paul for putting on this fun competition which had a good turnout from a mixture of club riders, it was nice to meet some new (to me) faces as I pinned numbers on.

I've done a couple of these in the past and the winner is normally within 20-30 seconds of the time they predicted they'd do (based on the average speed they said they'd cover the course in). Paul is going to send me the full results later and I'll post them here, but suffice to say it was very close with some amazingly accurate predicting.

Here is the podium places. (time is how far they were off their estimation).

Joint 3rd place
Rich Buerkner and Jon Camden - 8 seconds :!:

2nd place
Simon Lithgoe - 7 seconds :!:

Winner
Phil Nash - 0 seconds :!: That's right he did the 4.08 mile loop at exactly the speed he predicted...to the second :P :!:

Congratulations to Phil, the first winner of the Nonna Rosa Trophy . Great to see such a club run stalwart win the crystal trophy :D .

It was great event, thanks for organising it.

Paul looked very efficient with all the gear and the ACC liveried Mini, alot of the newer members were very impressed.

Full Result (time shown - m.ss - is difference from predicted based on average speed given):

1st Phil Nash 0.00
2nd Simon Lithgoe 0.07
3rd Rich Bruerkner 0.08
3rd Jon Camden 0.08
5th Alex Protasiuk 0.34
6th Katie Adams 0.37
7th Ionut 0.41
8th Mark McLaughlin 0.43
9th Alan Brewer 0.57
10th Jon Hemming 1.09
11th Lindsey Greenslade 1.12
12th Ben Fancourt 1.14
13th Del Cobb 1.16
14th Lara Galpin 1.52
15th George Allen 2.39
16th Lorraine Hewett 2.43
17th John Paul 22.52 (missed the first turn and got a bit lost. Hope you found your way to Box Hill okay and hooked up with Ionut again).
18th Ron Salter DNF

Nearly everyone was faster than they predicted. From what people said there was a head wind on the first section of the loop which made it harder to judge their pace on that bit. Being a flat circuit probably had people under estimate how fast they roll on the flat.
