Toks, on the sporting courses times/speeds become a little bit secondary to position as the courses can vary so much.
For example last year I set a pb for 50 miles on a sporting course beating a time I had done a couple of weeks earlier on a reasonable dual carriageway course.
On the sporting courses I tend to look at other riders I know and see how I have done compared to them and I can allow for whether they are good over hilly courses (Jon for example) or not so good (myself ).
