Barcombe 3rds

Hello All,

Just back from my Polish training camp so headed over to Barcombe yesterday for a race. Was greeted with light rain and a bit of wind but nothing too bad. The course is lots of long drags with a couple of fast downhill descents. The finish is on a climb after a drag up and is quite tough after you have been round the course 7 times. Overall distance on my clock including the neutralised zone was 93km which was longer than I had expected.

I attacked on the first lap as per normal and was then bought back in quite quickly. I sat in and then did a few turns on the front to bring back another break with Christian Yates and another guy from GS CC. We got them back and then I sat back in. Coming to the finish we were all together but unfortunately I was not strong enough to really compete for the sprint and trundled in at a lowly 17th place.

To be honest I was just happy to finish as it was quite a tough slog but also pleased I had the strength to do a bit of work and felt quite confident riding in the bunch etc. Bring on next week.

Not sure about the spelling of my name below, don't think they could read my dodgy writing.

Cheers

Marek....

Hey well done Marek a respectable finish. We'll have to have a competition to see who gets their name spelt incorrectly most often in racing results. The winner Martin Markcowski was a very strong ex 1st cat. He's actually won the perfs before. Hope to see you this saturday!

Here are my race statistics from Barcombe off my hrm. To put my Heart rate into context my max is about 206bpm. So my average HR was around 86% of max, so similar to a normal club run really.

Ascent is the number of metres climbed throughout the race if you were just riding straight up. I would be interested to see how the climbing compares to Eastway, any of your guys doing eastway got the altitude function on your Polar?

Cheers

Very interesting! I very rarely use my heart rate monitor in races now. I think it affects me psychologically (have panic attacks when it gets too high) so i'd rather ride on feel. I do record my waking heart rate a few times a week though. Its normally 48 and if its any higher than 54 it normally means I'm coming down with something or I need a rest from training. On last sat 2/3 race the average speed was approx 24mph and my maximum speed was 36mph
